  2. Spartan is a, build it yourself, SCSI interface for the Amiga 500
  3. or Amiga 1000 which was featured recently in the AC TECH magazine, 
  4. Vol.2, Num.1, 1992.   My only association with it is that I built 
  5. one and am very happy with it.

  8. Included in the article was a disk containing a low level formater, 
  9. device driver, sample mountlists, and other info.  All those files are 
  10. included in the archive.

  13. In addition, I have included two other files which are replacements for 
  14. the low level format and test programs.  Those original programs would 
  15. not work correctly on my system.  My versions are slightly modified in 
  16. that a delay is inserted immediatley after the scsi SEL signal is 
  17. de-asserted.  Those new files are in the directory named NewSformat.

  20. The design is not auto config or auto boot.  It is known to work with
  21. Seagate, Quantum, Maxtor, Adaptec, Sysquest, and probably most others 
  22. (These are the ones I've been told do work).  I had trouble with a 
  23. 90 meg Fujitsu drive that is firmware configured for Macintosh.  Someone 
  24. else apparently had trouble with a Rodyne drive. (My Maxtor works
  25. fine)

  27. I ordered the bd and 5380 chip from the designer and bought the rest of
  28. the parts through digi-key.  Total cost was just under $50.

  67. There are reported problems with copying large files across partitions on 
  68. some IBM type drives using an Adaptek adapter.  When this happens, the
  69. drive has to be reformatted.  I would suggest using only one partition
  70. with these drives.
