- This is a (partially) playable demo of a game currently in production,
- placed here mainly as a demo of the program's look and feel more than
- anything else (by popular demand!)

- Some brief instructions...
-
- There are only 3 units on this (unfinished) map. The top two are
- controllable when the game loads. Use the cursor keys or joystick to
- move around the map, fire or space to select a character. The character,
- once selected, is moved in the same manner.

- You will see six buttons on the lower right of the screen. From top to
- bottom, left to right they mean:

- Move: Click here to end Fire mode
-
- Fire: Click here to enter Fire mode (sorry about the useless gunsight!
- It's number 1 on my list of "Things To Change"!)

- Help: Unimplemented as yet
-
- Options: Click here, while controlling a character, to see a list of
- options. Some work, some don't - Pick Up and Drop do,
- but as there are no objects in this demo they're a
- little bit useless as yet!

- Map: Click here to redraw the map and quit the options menu

- Quit: This button exits the program

- Some general points:

- End Turn works, but doesn't deselect the current character! So, use End
- Turn then click on Map and use space to deselect the unit you're controlling.

- The explosions are flickery as yet, don't worry, this'll be fixed in the
- final version.

- Notice how all graphics and stats are loaded in from files. The finished
- game will be *completely* user-configurable.

- The only sound as yet is trashy internal stuff, the final game will use
- samples.

- There is no one-player option yet, there will be. Also, there'll be a
- nice front end with arming sequences and so on.

- I am taking a huge risk in releasing this demo! I cannot emphasize
- enough that the game *is less than 50% completed*. Please do not let any
- negative opinions bias you against the program for life! If you don't
- like anything, tell me at the address below and I'll consider any
- changes you suggest.

- The file "px.dms" is compressed using v1.11 of DMS, you'll need that
- version to unpack it. When unpacked, a bootable disk is created: you
- must boot from this disk to run the demo, as it needs the "Spacey" font
- in the fonts: dir (all my own work!). Ignore the text file at the start!

- The game (as yet) has no name - if you can suggest one, feel free...

- I estimate six weeks to a finished version, I have to add "probably" here!

- Sorry about the fragmented feel of this readme, I'm writing it in a
- hurry as my parking time has just about run out!

- I welcome all comments, suggestions, support, ideas and abuse, except
- the last bit.
