- What is AMOS Professional?
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- In its simplest form, it's a programming language similar to the familiar Basic
- taught in schools. But don't be fooled by that description, it out weighs its
- competitors on all fronts, especially where graphic and sound manipulation is
- concerned. Think of a program you've seen on the Amiga and AMOS Professional
- can produce it!
-
- For those of you who have AMOS or Easy AMOS you're in for some amazing
- surprises.
-
- What's in the box?
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- The Software
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~
- AMOS Professional comes on six discs:
- * System disc (the heart of the program)
- * Examples disc (containing 80+ fully documented programs)
- * Tutorials disc (showing all sorts of programming techniques)
- * Accessories disc (contains many useful support programs)
- * Two Productivity discs (holds AMOS creations that show you just
- what's possible.)
-
- The documentation
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Over 650 pages of easy to understand text. Every aspect of programming is
- covered from hard disc installation to sending Arexx messages from your
- programs.
-
- Written by Mel Croucher (who wrote the acclaimed Easy AMOS manual) and
- Stephen Hill (the original AMOS manual author).
-
-
- The new Editor
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- This new Editor features drop down menus, multiple program windows and easy
- click icons. Every option in the Editor can be reconfigured to your own
- liking, from a keyboard shortcut to making the Search option call your own
- Search program!
-
- A nice touch is the ability to split a program into two windows so you can see
- different parts of the same program at once and also move both listings in
- step with the cursor movement.
-
- Here's a list of the main features: New File Selector with unique Dir store
- facility, Macros for recalling long character sequences, Multiple program
- position marking for finding those allusive routines, Undo/Redo limited only
- by memory, Block selecting from any character position, Insertion of blank
- lines within programs, Search and Replace dialogue boxes, Full Configuration
- control (load up exactly as you left), Autosave option, User menu for calling
- up your own programs, Machine Code can be loaded into a procedure!
-
-
- Help!
- ~~~~~~~
- AMOS Professional can give you instant help at the touch of a key on over 700
- commands! You just place the cursor over the command you want help on and
- press the Help key - up pops a window that gives the full syntax and
- appropriate documentation. You can also explore the Help menus that guide you
- through many topics. Essential for the true Professional!
-
- New Commands
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Professional now offers:
- * Serial, Parallel and Printer commands (one of which is a screen dump
- command).
- * Mouth commands that give values of the phonetic voice as words are spoken by
- your Amiga.
- * Single and Double Floating point.
- * An Else...If structure - this is similar to Case...Switch
- * Up to 65000 memory banks, with extra commands to go with them
- * Iff Anim control that runs faster than Dpaint!
- * Noisetracker and Med Library support.
- * Interface - a massive AMAL like language that allows you to create your own
- graphical Interface for your programs. This thing takes up four chapters!
- * Arexx support
- * Libs and Dev commands for the real Amiga Professionals
-
- The Monitor
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- When you're writing a program it can be very hard at times to work out why the
- program isn't doing what you thought you'd told it to do. With the AMOS
- Professional monitor all this becomes a cinch. The monitor shows you where
- your program goes during its running process and displays a quarter sized
- version of the output. It also allows you to trace variables that you suspect
- are causing the problems.
