  3.                             Arn V1.00 alpha                                     
  4.                                                                                 
  5. This is not an illegal hack, but                                                
  6. THIS IS JUST A PRELIMINARY VERSION OF ARN V1.00 TO SEE WHAT YOU HAVE            
  7. TO EXPECT FROM THE V1.00.                                                       
  8.                                                                                 
  9. NOTE: Dillon's AmigaUUCP is now supported by Arnmaster, although                
  10. ****  the scanning phase will be much longer without an active-file             
  11.       that is supported by your news system. Matt refused to support            
  12.       an active-file, yet.                                                      
  13.       If you have Dillon's AmigaUUCP you must specify the DOTDIRS keyword       
  14.       (i.e. DOTDIRS Y) in the configuration files and use option -A for         
  15.       ArnMaster (see Arn.doc and Arnmaster.doc for details)!!!                  
  16.                                                                                 
  17. The pager now allows you to show _all_ previous pages.                          
  18.                                                                                 
  19. If you have too much trouble with this version you should forget it and         
  20. switch back to V0.72 which is more reliable. So V1.00 alpha is not              
  21. a replacement for V0.72, but a completely different program.                    
  22.                                                                                 
  23. This version is still VERY UNCOMPLETE but the basic functions work              
  24. (maybe not always as expected..:-). I use it everyday, but I know               
  25. where the potential bugs are...                                                 
  26. You can use it if you find it stable enough, because it'll give                 
  27. you much more comfort than Arn V0.72. But don't complain for                    
  28. bugs or any loss of data or that the functions don't work as                    
  29. described. Note that the docs are very UNCOMPLETE and many functions            
  30. will change as well as new ones are added. The online-help should               
  31. be the best way to find through this jungle...it's nearly consistent.           
  32.                                                                                 
  33. Besides bugs you have to accept a little inconvenience, too:                    
  34. Arn now requires the program                                                    
  35. Arnmaster (which is naturally included)                                         
  36. which must be invoked each time you get news. In later versions                 
  37. you don't have to start it manually, because a daemon will do this              
  38. for you everytime rnews was activated. The daemon doesn't exist, yet.           
  39. To read news, just start "arnmaster" each time after you got news (they         
  40. should be already sorted in). After it has finished it's work you can run       
  41. 'arn' and read news in a 'normal' way.

  43. The file .arnmasterrc should be moved to UULIB:!!                               
  44.                                                                                 
  45. The GROUPLIST-files of Arn V1.00                                                
  46.  are incompatible with the ones earlier                                         
  47. versions, but it can read the old ones. The best method is to copy your old     
  48. GROUPLIST with a new name and set GROUPLIST to this file in your .arnrc.        
  49. WARNING: Don't use any of the search or goto functions, although listed in      
  50.          arnhelp.txt: they are not completed yet and it often results in        
  51.          endless loops!

  53. Nevertheless I hope you'll get the idea what's going on with Arn.

  55. Bugs:                                                                           
  56.                                                                                 
  57.     Sometimes I got corrupted headers. You should see the message               
  58.     WARNING: Headerbuffer is corrupt! <...>                                     
  59.     in this case. Please send me a mail if you got this error AND               
  60.     write your configuration (esp. whether you're using WShell2.0               
  61.     or not). This bug is not caused by Arn, but by the CMD_CLEAR                
  62.     console command.
