- Tranferring over to DLG from Paragon can be alot of fun, or in my
- case, alot of hassles. The last thing I wanted to bother with was in typing
- in 2000+ file descriptions.
- You probably know by now that DLG, when turbo uploading, will take the
- comment field of a file as its description. All you have to do now is to
- find a Paragon/Star-Net utility that will attatch your Paragon/Star-Net
- file description to your filename. Such a utility exists: it is called
- Starfl written by William Bowling.
- You need to be running Star-Net beta version O or greater for Starfl
- to work. Now that all Paragon sysops have access to Star-Net beta versions,
- this isn't a problem if you are running Star-Net. I have included StarFL in
- this archive.
- If you already have Star-Net running, then skip this paragraph. If you
- are running ANY version of Paragon, then read on. From the Paragon Support
- BBS, you need to download the following: The support files for Starnet beta
- version A. In specific, you need the CTVCON program which will convert
- your PARAGON.CON to StarNet.CON. Also, you need Starbase (which is
- Star-Net's replacement for Parcon). You should be able to get Starbase in
- any of the support file archives. Make sure it has StarBase in it. DO an
- archive list before you download it. Once you have those downloaded, set
- your stack to at least 40000 and run CVTCON. Then run Starbase. It will
- take a while while it indexes files & then indexes file areas. After
- StarBase is run, run CONFIG. Whoops... I should also mention that you need
- to run CONFIG as there are a couple of questions that need answering. So
- make sure you get config. (This should be in the same archive as CVTCON)
- Once you are all set up and have StarBase running, run StarFL as is
- says in the doc file. Add comments to all files in every file area. The
- docs for StarFL say how to di it pretty well.
- When you are done with that, run DLG & create your file areas if you
- haven't done so yet. Then go to Transfer maintenence, select your file
- area, then select Turbo Upload. It will ask you the user who you want the
- files to say uploaded by. I use "System" for that. It will ask you if you
- want to make the files free or not. Then it will ask to Move files: I
- usually say yes as DLG will move files from your area to its area of
- choice. If you select no, it will keep the files in the original area on
- the hard drive. Then it will ask you for a pathname to the files. Just type
- in where your files are at and sit back. That's it!
-
- If you have any questions, you can reach me at the Pittsburgh Commodore
- Group BBS at (412) 434-5483 Fido 1:129/143 (if Trapdoor & DLGMAIL ever
- arrive!). Just thought I'd write this up as I had a little problem with it
- and I wanted to help anyone else out. I wanted to write it before I forgot
- everything I learned about Paragon. I am too busy working with a REAL BBS
- package -- DLG!
