- MafiaDoor Sysop Instructions
- ----------------------------
-
- FIRST, the legal stuff. You may run MafiaDoor free of charge for 20 days.
- If you decide to keep running MafiaDoor, you must REGISTER. After I did
- SpaceDoor, only 2 sysops registered (thanks!), even though I didn't
- ask for a lot.
-
- If I don't get a better response with MafiaDoor than I did with SpaceDoor,
- then I will give up on writing doors. If nobody appreciates my work, then
- it isn't worth the effort, and I will do something else with my time.
-
- To register, send check, money order, stocks, bonds, gold, gems, or
- whatever you think it is worth to me at the address below:
-
- UNTIL JAN. 31, 1992:
-
- Doug McLean
- c/o The Mad Scientist
- Apt. 203
- 242 Regent St.
- Fredericton, N.B.
- Canada
- E3B 2W4
-
- AFTER JAN. 31, 1992:
- Doug McLean
- c/o The Mad Scientist
- 145 Bedell Ave.
- Saint John, N.B.
- Canada
- E2K 2C3
-
- If you run MafiaDoor after 20 days and don't register, a big guy with a
- scar on his face may pay you a visit to extract a registration fee one
- way or another! Besides, future versions (if I do any) will be available
- ONLY to registered sysops, as will the simple configuration editor, if I
- write one.
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- I accept no responsibility for the performance (or lack thereof) of
- MafiaDoor, nor will I be responsible if it crashes, gurus, or otherwise
- damages your system. It shouldn't, but but if it does, you can't sue me.
- I have tried to make the game as bug free as possible, but if you find any
- bugs, let me know ASAP at 1:255/9, or (506) 455-2808 (BBS until JAN. 31
- 1992), or at on of the above addresses.
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Ok, to set up the door:
- [1] Assign MAFIA: to wherever you want the game to be. This is best done
- in your startup-sequence, or in the script that starts your BBS.
- [2] Un-lharc or copy the files from the archive to MAFIA:
- [3] Copy Mafia.menu to your menus directory.
- [4] Edit your doors menu to include a key to go to the Mafia menu.
- [5] You may have to edit the Mafia menu key to return to the doors
- menu.
-
- The game should now be ready to play, unless I left something out. You may
- wish to archive the instructions and place them in your download, players
- have little chance of survival if they don't read them.
-
- To reset the game:
- DELETE MAFIA:#?.data
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- There is nothing coded into the game to determine when someone wins, I
- left this out to give sysops more control over when the game ends. Post
- a bulletin or message defining your end of game rules. I suggest that the
- first player to reach 5000 blocks wins. Then reset the game.
-
- A small utility may (or may not) be available in the future to registered
- sysops to change a few of the default values in the game. Such an editor
- would not be able to edit players, but would allow you to change the
- number of turns/day and what a player starts with.
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Special thanks to Paul Hanson (sysop of The Sage's Desk), Kelly Tobias
- (sysop of Dragon's Lair), and the users of my BBS for beta testing and
- suggestions.
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Bug Fixes and Changes:
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- The game should no longer mess up the old news file by placing the
- current date at the top of the file if a player who is out of turns
- is the first player of the day.
-
- Incorrect (random) information was displayed if a player attacked
- another don and lost. This was due to an error in a printf statement
- and has been fixed.
-
- Added re-draw screen to the menus (but not elsewhere).
-
- Other minor bug fixes and corrections.
