  40. 2) The Sound Card/MIDI Setup Test

  43. When SuperJAM! is run for the first time, it gives you the option
  44. of running the Sound Card/MIDI Setup Test before continuing. It is 
  45. strongly recommended that you run this test in order to eliminate 
  46. any possible sound problems which may occur.

  48. The Sound Card/MIDI Setup Test is a series of procedures which
  49. determine what sound device configuration is best suited for use 
  50. with your system. You can run these diagnostics at any time by 
  51. selecting Test my sound card or MIDI setup... from SuperJAM!'s 
  52. Help menu. This test gives you a quick and easy way to configure 
  53. your sound device for use with SuperJAM!.

  55. The Sound Card/MIDI Setup Test asks you a series of questions while 
  56. attempting to play music using the available sound sources. Your 
  57. answers to these questions help SuperJAM! to recognize what type of 
  58. sound card or MIDI instrument you have in order to insure that the 
  59. music always plays correctly on it.

  61. If you change your system configuration in a way which may affect 
  62. SuperJAM!, the program detects this and runs the Sound Card/MIDI 
  63. Setup Test again, automatically.

  67. 3) How SuperJAM! Installs Itself
  68. --------------------------------

  70. The SuperJAM! Setup program does very little in the way of
  71. modifying your current Windows environment. The Setup program
  72. adds one simple line to your Win.ini file:

  74. sjm=C:\SUPERJAM\superjam.exe ^.sjm
  75.  
  76. In addition, the Setup program asks you to specify a directory
  77. where it will then install SuperJAM! and the following
  78. associated subdirectories:

  80. . The CHANGES subdirectory contains chord changes that can be
  81.   loaded into sections.
  82. . The DRUMMAPS subdirectory contains some additional drum maps.
  83. . The PTCHMAPS subdirectory contains some additional patch lists.
  84. . The SECTIONS subdirectory contains a demo for each style.
  85. . The SONGS subdirectory contains a demo song.
  86. . The STYLES subdirectory contains additional styles.

  88. The first time you run SuperJAM!, SuperJAM! creates a CHORDS
  89. subdirectory. This subdirectory contains the chords which are
  90. available for use in the chord palette.

  94. 4) Latest Features

  97. In addition to the features listed and described in the
  98. SuperJAM! User Guide, you'll find several new improvements in
  99. this version:

  101. . You can now use the Pencil in conjuction with the Keyboard
  102.   window to add embellishments and grooves to your sections, while
  103.   the Section window plays. Likewise, you can use the Eraser to
  104.   delete embellishments and grooves from your sections in the same
  105.   manner.

  107. . The Eas-O-Matic MusicMaker now works while the Section and/or
  108.   Song windows play.
  109.  
  110. . The Sound Card/MIDI Setup Test (see above) has been added.

  112. . The Global Options dialog has been expanded to include an
  113.   option to set the drum MIDI channel.  Some sound cards
  114.   perform MIDI drums on MIDI channel 10, while others perform
  115.   on MIDI channel 16.  Set SuperJAM! to use the proper channel
  116.   by selecting "Always use MIDI Channel 10," "Always Use
  117.   MIDI Channel 16," or "Use Band Window Setting."  The
  118.   first two options force all drums to go to their respective
  119.   MIDI Channels, while the third allows the MIDI Channel to 
  120.   be set from within the Band window.  If you're not certain
  121.   which option to choose, run the Sound Card/MIDI Setup Test
  122.   by selecting "Test my sound card or MIDI setup" from the 
  123.   Help menu.  This helps you choose the proper drum channel.
