  5.   Welcome to OS/2* for Windows ServicePak.  It includes
  6.   service updates for licensed users of OS/2 2.1 for
  7.   Windows.  This ServicePak allows you to continue running
  8.   DOS, Windows, and OS/2 applications on the same desktop.
  9.  
  10.   This README contains helpful hints found in our
  11.   testing as well as updated information that did not
  12.   make the original OS/2 for Windows printed
  13.   publications.  Following are the README features:

  143.   o   Your system INI files might be read-only.  As a
  144.       result, the system will not update the .INI
  145.       files.  When this happens, the position of the
  146.       icons will not be saved.  To resolve this problem
  147.       go to the directory where your system INI files
  148.       are located C:\OS2 (default).  Then, type the
  149.       following:
  150.  
  151.         ATTRIB -r *.ini
  152.  
  153.       Shut down your system, and when you restart your
  154.       system the INI files are updated.
  155.  
  156.   o   When OS/2 for Windows ServicePak is installed as
  157.       a SVGA system in 1024x768 resolution, and you
  158.       dual boot to DOS in low resolution, the fonts are
  159.       too large for the display.  To correct this
  160.       problem do the following to the WIN.INI file
  161.       located in the OS2\MDOS\WINOS2 directory.  Change
  162.       the high resolution font statement courF.fon,
  163.       serifF.fon, smallF.fon, sserifF.fon, and
  164.       symbolF.fon to low resolution fonts.
  165.  
  166.       NOTE:  When you dual boot back to OS/2 for
  167.              Windows ServicePak, you need to return the
  168.              resolution statement back to the original
  169.              high resolution fonts.  Therefore, you
  170.              must change the font statement to
  171.              courE.fon, serifE.fon, smallE.fon,
  172.              sserifE.fon, and symbolE.fon respectively.

  178.   RUNNING CHKDSK
  179.  
  180.   If you are running CHKDSK from the command line
  181.   without the /F parameter on an HPFS partition which
  182.   also contains your SWAPPER.DAT file, you may receive
  183.   a SYS0552 error message.  This message can be
  184.   ignored.  If you are using CHKDSK from the pop-up
  185.   menu of a drive icon, you may receive a WARNING
  186.   message stating "The disk is in use or locked by
  187.   another process."  If this occurs, CHKDSK will not
  188.   let you display the graphical representation of disk
  189.   usage.

  197.   o   If you experience video corruption for example,
  198.       stacked or missing icons:
  199.  
  200.       -   Display the desktop pop-up menu (click mouse
  201.           button 2 on the OS/2 desktop background).
  202.  
  203.       -   Select Refresh to redraw the desktop.
  204.  
  205.       -   If the screen goes blank, press Alt+Esc to
  206.           switch between the applications to force
  207.           repainting of the screen.
  208.  
  209.   o   When you use the Windows Version 3.1 Control
  210.       Panel the changes to the 386 Enhanced mode
  211.       settings are ignored and you might receive an
  212.       error message.  Disregard the error message.
  213.  
  214.   o   Do not run the Windows Setup program.  It is
  215.       recommended that you do not change your video
  216.       configuration for Windows.

  222.   SYSTEM SHUT DOWN

  224.   During a system shutdown, there might be times when
  225.   the "Shutdown is completed" message is not displayed.
  226.   If this happens, wait 30 seconds until all disk
  227.   activity is complete, then press Ctrl+Alt+Del to
  228.   restart your system.

  231.   APPLICATION MIGRATION

  233.   After installing OS/2 for Windows ServicePak on your
  234.   system, use the Migrate Applications program to
  235.   migrate your programs instead of the Selective
  236.   Install program.  The Migrate Applications program is
  237.   located in the System Setup folder.

  240.   RECORDER APPLICATION

  242.   The Recorder application located in the Accessories
  243.   Program Group of your Windows product will not run
  244.   with OS/2 for Windows ServicePak.  Running this
  245.   application can lead to undesirable and unpredictable
  246.   results.

  254.   It is recommended that you do NOT turn "ON" the OS/2
  255.   screen savers and the Windows screen savers at the
  256.   same time.

  261.   DOS Images on the hard disk (VMBs) need to use the
  262.   FSFILTER and FSACCESS drivers provided with this
  263.   version of OS/2.  FSFILTER and FSACESS drivers are

  270.   The Check disk option for a CD-ROM object will not
  271.   display information about the CD-ROM.  To obtain
  272.   information about the CD-ROM:

  290.       driver, some complex images might not print
  291.       correctly when LaserJet performance options are
  292.       enabled.  If you experience incorrect output or
  293.       degraded printer performance, return the
  294.       performance options to the disabled state.  To
  295.       change the performance options:
  296.  
  297.       1.  Point to the printer object.
  298.  
  299.       2.  Click mouse button 2.
  300.  
  301.       3.  Select the arrow to the right of Open.

  303.       4.  Select Settings.

  305.       5.  Select the Printer driver tab.

  328.   If you have a Logitech hand scanner on an AT bus
  329.   computer, run the scanner at the 100, 200, or 300 DPI
  330.   setting.

  333.   AUDIO ADAPTERS

  336.   Audio support in WIN-OS/2 and DOS sessions is
  337.   dependent on installed drivers.  You should install
  338.   the audio adapter driver that came with your audio
  339.   adapter.  When installing audio support for WIN-OS/2,
  340.   be sure to install both DOS and Windows device
  341.   drivers.  Configure both drivers to use the same
  342.   interrupt level and DMA channel.
  343.  
  344.   o   The following drivers are available with the
  345.       Audio Capture and Playback Adapter (ACPA):
  346.  
  347.       -   ACPADD.SYS

  369.       2.  Add DEVICE=C:\ACPAK12.SYS

  499.   If you have a preinstalled system, and you change
  500.   your country or keyboard configuration using the
  501.   Configure Preinstalled System program, located in the

  503.   for OS/2 sessions.  To configure the country and
  504.   keyboard for WIN-OS/2* sessions, use the
  505.   International icon from the WIN-OS/2 Control Panel.

  511.   ADVANCED POWER MANAGEMENT SUPPORT FOR PORTABLE

  516.   This version of OS/2 for Windows ServicePak includes
  517.   additional APM support that was not available for the
  518.   original OS/2 2.1 release.  Laptops with 32 bit
  519.   protect mode APM are now supported.  Refer to
  520.   README.INS for additional information on APM support.

  522.   Laptop computers with the following are compatible
  523.   with OS/2 for Windows ServicePak Advanced Power
  524.   Management (APM):
  525.  
  526.   o   16-bit protect-mode APM in the BIOS
  527.  
  528.   o   32-bit protect-mode APM
  529.  
  530.   Laptop computers that have no APM support in BIOS or
  531.   have only real-mode APM are not supported by OS/2 for
  532.   Windows ServicePak Advanced Power Management.
  533.  
  534.   The DOS utility program APMHERE, which is available
  535.   on the IBM BBS, can quickly determine whether your
  536.   machine has Advanced Power Management support in
  537.   conformance to the APM 1.0 Specification (dated
  538.   1/91).  Systems with BIOS dates prior to January 1991
  539.   will not have the protect-mode APM support in their
  540.   BIOS.

  1177.       session to the same mode as the desktop.

  1259.       the desktop.  To correct this problem, you must
  1260.       upgrade to the 2MB version of the Graphics Ultra
