  2. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. Extended help for "Open Image" ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
  3.  
  4. This dialog is where the name of the file to open is specified.  There are four 
  5. areas of interest on this dialog: 
  6.  
  7.  o Format area 
  8.  o Files area 
  9.  o Directories area 
  10.  o Pushbutton area 
  11.  
  12.  The "format area" is where you select the format of the file you wish to load. 
  13.  If you want the Image Toolkit to determine the format for you, select 
  14.  "(Determine the file format)". 
  15.  
  16.  The "files area" is where you see the files in the current directory. 
  17.  Double-clicking on a file in this list is the same as selecting the file and 
  18.  then selecting the "Open" pushbutton. 
  19.  
  20.  The "directories area" is where you see both the subdirectories beneath the 
  21.  current directory and the available drives from which to choose. 
  22.  Double-clicking on a file in this list is the same as selecting the directory 
  23.  and then selecting the "Open" pushbutton.

  25.  The "pushbutton area" contains the pushbuttons corresponding to the available 
  26.  actions that can be performed on this dialog.

  28.  "Open" will either opens the currently selected or entered file, refreshes the 
  29.  file list with the specified filename mask, or changes to the specified 
  30.  directory.  The order of precedence is as follows:  if a filename has been 
  31.  entered or selected and does not contain any "wildcard" characters, this will 
  32.  attempt to open the file and load the image contained therein; if the filename 
  33.  does contain any "wildcard"  characters, this will refresh the file list using 
  34.  the specified filename mask; else, this will change the current directory to 
  35.  the one entered or specified.

  37.  If nothing is entered and nothing is selected, it is taken as though "*.*" 
  38.  were entered in the filename area. 
  39.  
  40.  "Properties" will display the format-specific properties dialog, allowing you 
  41.  to specify any format-specific options to be used upon loading. It is the 
  42.  decision of the format handler to use the specified options or not.

  44.  "Cancel" will return you to the previous window with no action taken.

  96. This dialog is where you specify the printer and the printing options to be 
  97. used.  There are four areas of interest on this dialog:

  99.  o Printer list 
  100.  o Alignment area 
  101.  o Printer page 
  102.  o Pushbutton area

  104.  The "printer list" is where the currently installed printers are listed, with 
  105.  the default printer selected when the dialog is initially displayed. 
  106.  
  107.  The "alignment area" is where you can "snap" the image to a particular side or 
  108.  the center in both the horizontal and the vertical directions. 
  109.  
  110.  The "printer page" is a depiction of the printable area for the printer you 
  111.  have selected.  Here you can manipulate the image by using mouse button 1. 
  112.  When the pointer is in the middle of the image, depressing the button will 
  113.  allow you to change the position on the printer page, while depressing the 
  114.  button when the pointer is positioned on one of the image edges allows you to 
  115.  change the size of the image in the direction corresponding to the edge the 
  116.  pointer is on. 
  117.  
  118.  Selecting a new printer in the printer list automatically resizes the printer 
  119.  page. 
  120.  
  121.  The "pushbutton area" contains the pushbuttons corresponding to the available 
  122.  actions that can be performed on this dialog.

  124.  "Print" will attempt to print the image using the options specified on this 
  125.  dialog on the selected printer.

  127.  "Properties" will display the printer-specific job properties dialog allowing 
  128.  you to specify any printer-specific options to be used when printing.

  137. The main window is where all actions are performed.  There are three areas of 
  138. interest (annotated in the picture above): 
  139.  
  140.  o The action bar 
  141.  o The display area 
  142.  o The miniature view 
  143.  
  144.  The action bar is where all of the actions are selected from. By moving the 
  145.  cursor to an item and pressing F1, you can get help for that menuitem. 
  146.  
  147.  The display area is where the magnification is displayed.  It is this area 
  148.  that is manipulated by subsequently selecting any of the appropriate 
  149.  menuitems.  Actions such as saving and printing can be performed. 
  150.  
  151.  (The miniature view is not used at this moment) The miniature view is used for 
  152.  drag-n-drop purposes.  When used with applications that support the private 
  153.  format used by Magnify, you can copy the contents of the display area to other 
  154.  appplications without going through the clipboard. The advantage of doing this 
  155.  is that you don't lose what is currently in the clipboard.

  158. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5. Extended Help for "Set lens size" ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
  159.  
  160. This dialog is used to change the current lens size.  The lens is considered to 
  161. be the area underneath the mouse pointer when magnification is in progress.  It 
  162. is a square with each side of the length specified on this panel. 
  163.  
  164. Move the scrollbar until the desired side-length is displayed next to the 
  165. scrollbar, then press "OK" to apply this to the display area. 
  166.  
  167. If magnification was in progress when the menuitem was selected, it is paused 
  168. while this dialog is displayed.

  171. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6. Extended Help for "Set refresh" ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
  172.  
  173. This dialog is used to change the automatic refresh settings.  The automatic 
  174. refresh is used when you wish to observe something and do not wish to keep 
  175. moving the mouse (which is, by default, the only time the display is 
  176. refreshed). 
  177.  
  178. By unchecking the "Disable refresh" checkbox, you can enter a value (in 
  179. milliseconds) that will be used as the period between refreshes.  This must be 
  180. between 1 and 1000 (inclusive). 
  181.  
  182. Checking the checkbox disables the automatic refresh.  If magnification was in 
  183. progress when the menuitem was selected, it is paused while this dialog is 
  184. displayed.

  189. The following keys can be used as short cuts for commonly-performed actions:

  191.  Shift+PrintScrn     Toggles starting and stopping of magnification.  See also 
  192.                      "Start magnification". 
  193.  F3                  Exits Magnify 
  194.  Ctrl+Insert         Copies the display area to the clipboard.  See also "Copy 
  195.                      to clipboard". 
  196.  Ctrl+S              Saves the display area to disk.  See also "Save display

  198.  Ctrl+P              Prints the display area to a specified printer.  See also 
  199.                      "Print display area...".

  201.  The Shift+PrintScrn short cut can be used at anytime while Magnify is running,

  212. Selecting this menuitem will begin magnification.  While active, the area under 
  213. the mouse is magnified and displayed inside of the Magnify window. However, 
  214. magnification is fully transparent, meaning the mouse retains its function and 
  215. can be used as you normally would.

  217. The size of the area that is magnified can be changed.  See also "Set lens 
  218. size...".

  220. The Magnify window is, by default, refreshed whenever the mouse is moved, but 
  221. an automatic refresh can be enabled.  See also "Set refresh...".

  261. Selecting this menuitem displays a dialog allowing you to print the display 
  262. area on any local printer queue.  Additionally, you can change the destination 
  263. size and position on the printer page.

  265. For LAN printers, the following conditions must be met:

  267.  There must be defined a local queue associated with a local printer 
  268.  definition.  The printer definition must use the same printer driver that is 
  269.  used on the server for the printer in question. 
  270.  The port number (e.g. LPT1, LPT2, etc.) specified in the queue must match that 
  271.  which is used on the "NET USE" command. 
  272.  
  273.  When PM sees an application spooling a print job to the local queue, it 
  274.  determines that this is to be printed on a LAN printer by the matching port 
  275.  numbers, so it sends the print job over the LAN to the server automatically.
