  2.                            MultiMaint
  3.  
  4. MultiMaint is a 32 bit OS/2 Shareware PM Application that includes
  5. all of the functions of IniMaint and SysMaint, plus the ability to
  6. create and use a 'portable' backup of the Desktop. SysMaint has the
  7. ability to make a 'simple' backup of the Desktop and this is the only
  8. backup that the vast majority of users will ever need. A simple
  9. backup allows a user to restore his Desktop in case it has become
  10. corrupted for any reason and this is all the backup that most users
  11. need.  However, there are Corporate users who have the need to move a
  12. Desktop from one machine to another without going through the entire
  13. customization process on every machine. In addition, users who run
  14. Beta versions of OS/2 are told that they should not install one
  15. version of OS/2 over another without reformatting the HD. This causes
  16. a complete loss of all Desktop customization. Such users also need
  17. the ability to move a Desktop between different OS/2 installations.
  18. Therefore, there is a limited need for a portable backup of the
  19. Desktop and this is the purpose of MultiMaint. The major features
  20. are:

  22. . The ability to create a portable backup of the Desktop, including
  23.   the automatic maintenance of as many generations of backup as the
  24.   user wants.

  26. . Each generation of backup will be contained in a small number of
  27.   files, currently projected to be 4 files, thus making it very easy
  28.   and fast to move a copy of the backup from one environment to
  29.   another.

  31. . The ability to do a full restore of the Desktop from any backup
  32.   generation after installing a new version of OS/2 on the existing
  33.   hardware, on a different set of hardware or after moving OS/2 from
  34.   one place to another on a specific set of hardware.

  36. . The ability to do a partial, object by object, restore of the
  37.   Desktop in order to recover from specific problems or to move only
  38.   specific objects from one environment to another.

  40. . The full and partial restores will include the ability to update
  41.   the OS2.INI and OS2SYS.INI files with any application specific
  42.   information that these file might contain. This will allow
  43.   application software to be moved from one environment to another
  44.   without losing any of the application specific customization. The
  45.   user will still be responsible for moving the actual files needed
  46.   to run the application.

  51.   the large number of Options in the Options Dialog.

  62. MultiMaint is not yet available, but a reasonably priced upgrade will
  63. be offered to all existing users of IniMaint or SysMaint when it is
  64. available. The current expectation is that MultiMaint will be
  65. generally available in the 1st Quarter of 1994.
