- Hazel modification history:
-
-
- 1.0 First major release
-
- ----------------------------------------------------------
-
- 1.1 Provides an Index dialog box which allows entries to be selected
- quickly.
-
- Some documentation, both on-line and external, has been updated.
-
- I also did some internal work, but these changes should not be
- visible.
-
- ----------------------------------------------------------
-
- 1.1a Fixed inconsistent find behavior when "All fields" selected.
-
- ----------------------------------------------------------
-
- 1.1b Fixed problem with Index/Find buttons remaining disabled when
- Index box is dismissed and a save Save is executed.
-
- Made first phone number (if present) default number to dial in
- Dialer dialog (at request of user).
-
- ----------------------------------------------------------
-
- 1.2 *VERY IMPORTANT* The Hazel file formats had to be changed as a
- result of some of the enhancements outlined below. A program
- "11TO12.EXE" is provided to convert both Hazel address book files
- and your user preferences file to the new format. You *must* be
- a registered user to use this program; your personalized disk
- serves as a "key" to allow use of "11TO12.EXE". Hazel 1.2 will
- alert you if you attempt to access un-converted pre-v1.2 files.
-
- Added "Save Window Positions" option to Edit menu. This allows
- customization of the main, index, entry, dial, and find window
- positions. To use this feature, bring up all the desired windows,
- position them to your liking, then select Save Window Positions.
- The main, index, and entry windows will be brought up in the
- saved positions when Hazel is started. The find and dial
- windows will be brought up every time in the saved positions.
-
- Added Day-Timers(R) vertical offset selection to User Preferences,
- since some users were having minor problems with print alignment.
-
- Added alternate dial prefix to User Preferences. Prefixing a
- phone number with "@" selects the alternate dial prefix (The "@"
- isn't printed when the printing options are used nor is it
- exported). The "@" prefix works for phone numbers associated
- with an address book entry AND for numbers typed manually into
- the Dialer.
-
- Added Remove field to User Preferences. This field specifies the
- prefix that should stripped from phone numbers in the Dialer (for
- example, "1-504-" might be specified to ensure that calls local to the
- 504 area code are dialed without the "1-504-" prefix).
-
- Added Entry Dialog and Index Dialog checkboxes to User Preferences to
- allow selection of the dialogs which automatically pop up when an
- address book is opened. Both are checked by default.
-
- Added a Modem Delay field to User Preferences. If Hazel doesn't
- report "No response was received from the modem after a command
- was issued" when you attempt to dial, you can ignore this field.
- If you do get this message when you attempt to dial, try increasing
- the number until the problem goes away. This field was added to
- assist Hazel users with older modems, which sometimes process
- commands more slowly. Make the value only as large as
- necessary to eliminate your dialing problem.
-
- Added Dial and ClipBd buttons to Index dialog. Dial brings up the
- dialer without going through the Entry dialog and ClipBd pastes the
- current entry to the clipboard. Double-clicking on an entry still
- brings up the complete entry in the Entry dialog, as does clicking
- the Select button.
-
- Added ClipBd button to Entry dialog to allow pasting to the clipboard
- directly from the Entry dialog.
-
- Added support for up to six phone numbers. Phone numbers 3-6 are
- accessed through a spin field to save screen space. The Dialer has
- access to all six numbers.
-
- Added a Country field to the Entry dialog.
-
- The Find and Index dialogs can now both be popped up simultaneously.
-
- The main Hazel window may now be raised above the Entry and Index
- dialogs.
-
- Import/Export now allows the field positions to be specified via spin
- buttons.
-
- Added Dup(licate) button to the Entry dialog to duplicate the current
- entry. [Note: Hazel tracks its own registered users, and this makes
- keeping "equivalent" information for all registered users much easier!]
-
- Added "Find All" button to Find dialog. This allows all entries
- matching a particular string to be tagged. "Tag Matches" is
- assumed when "Find All" is used. (Example: A Hazel user
- places $MAIL$ in the Comment field for each entry in a mailing
- list. Using Find All on "$MAIL$" allows all these entries to be
- tagged quickly for envelope printing, etc. Find All does not pause
- between matches as a combination of Find and Find Next would.
-
- Accelerator keys added for toggling the Entry and Index
- dialogs and tagging/un-tagging all entries. The accelerator
- keys are F2, F3, F4, F5 and function only when the main Hazel
- window has the focus. [Note that these keys also provide an easy
- way to bring the Index or Entry dialogs to the front if they become
- buried under other windows].
-
- If no changes are made to an address book, the index file is not
- rebuilt on exit. This change is particularly important for Hazel
- users with large address books (one user regularly uses a 1500+ entry
- one); exiting Hazel should be much faster now when no changes
- have been made to the open address book.
-
- Hazel 1.1b's dialer would refuse to dial phone numbers if you
- imbedded commas (as in 9,1-555-1212) directly into the phone number
- fields as opposed to including them in the dial prefix only.
- This has been corrected.
-
- Envelope printing has been significantly improved; specification of
- a "10" form via the Job Properties dialog is no longer necessary, as
- an envelope-sized "image" will be printed on whatever form is
- selected. The Job Properties dialog is no longer displayed when
- printing envelopes. Return and TO: address placement can still be
- adjusted in User Preferences.
-
- Fonts may now be selected for both the return and TO: addresses for
- envelopes.
-
- The Job Properties dialog is no longer displayed when Day-Timers(R)
- are printed. Make sure that a Letter-sized form is the default
- form for the default printer.
-
- The font for Day-Timers may now be set independently of the Job
- Properties dialog (many printers did not even allow selection of
- fonts from the Job Properties dialog, anyway. Mine does, but users
- indicated that most don't). The Job Properties dialog is no longer
- displayed when Day-Timers are printed.
-
- Reworking of the index dialog fill routine has yielded faster
- index box reloading during delete, add, etc. operations.
-
- The index box now displays blank lines for entries with no first,
- last, or organization names.
-
- A non-Day-Timers print facility has been added. The fields you wish
- to print may be selected via a dialog after a Print Entries command
- has been issued.
-
- The Comment field now has scrollbars.
-
- Bug fix: In 1.1b, when the Index dialog was open and the last
- entry in an address book was deleted, the item was not deleted
- from the Index listbox; selection of this "ghost" item would
- cause Hazel to exit. The Index dialog now works correctly.
-
- Bug fix: In 1.1b, attemping to Tag All or UnTag All entries when
- there were no entries remaining in the address book caused Hazel
- to exit. This problem has been corrected.
-
- Bug fix: Corrected temporary filename selection problem.
-
- Bug fix: Corrected a problem with redial of long-distance numbers.
-
- Bug fix: Hazel would sometimes hang the message queue if it was
- shut down improperly (for example, just killing the Hazel process).
- Since this isn't a good way to close Hazel, I don't think this bug
- bothered too many people, but it should be fixed now anyway.
-
- An annoying registration reminder has been added. The
- registration reminder remains up while Hazel is running. All
- of the Hazel windows may be raised above this dialog, but
- executing menu commands from the main Hazel window causes it
- to be raised from the bottom of the window stack if you've
- "buried" it. The registration reminder dialog can be dragged
- off screen, but will return next time you execute Hazel. I
- realize it's a pain, and that's the idea. You'll be able to
- use Hazel to determine if it suits your needs, and if it does,
- register! As far as I can tell, the number of users of Hazel
- far exceeds the number of registered users; I need registered
- users to continue development at a reasonable pace, and
- registering is the *honest* thing to do if you're going to
- continue using Hazel.
