  1.                            Announcing MidiLab/2
  2.  
  3. MidiLab/2 is a MIDI Sequencer, Editor and data manager application for OS/2
  4. 2.0 and beyond.  Its primary functions- Record, Overdub, Playback, and Track
  5. Edit, and the other supporting functions, are controlled by CUA compliant PM
  6. user interface facilities.
  7.  
  8. MidiLab/2 exploits the power of OS/2, including 32-bit operation,
  9. multi-threading, and Presentation Manager functions.  It features minimal
  10. hardware and storage requirements while providing a high level of function
  11. and performance.  MidiLab/2 supports the MIDI 1.0 File Specification.
  12. There are no special hardware nor software requirements other than a Roland
  13. MPU-401/IPC/IMC MIDI Processing Unit (or compatible), and any system
  14. capable of running OS/2 2.0, MCA or AT bus.

  16. While a musician unfamiliar with computers should be able to readily
  17. use MidiLab/2 as a multi-track recorder, its full capability can best be
  18. realized with a reasonable knowledge of MIDI concepts and terminology, and
  19. general computer operation.  It is assumed the user is familiar with
  20. MIDI-compatible equipment, and is aware of the role of a sequencer in a
  21. MIDI-based audio system.

  23. MidiLab/2 targets the Multimedia creator, the MIDI musician, and
  24. hobbyists/home users in general as potential users of the program.

  47.                            History and personal data
  48.  
  49. The author is an ex-IBM'er, and has been working with MIDI sequencers since
  50. 1985.  I designed and built a DOS-based sequencer at that time, for my own
  51. use as a semi-professional musician.  I later made the program available
  52. throughout IBM, where several hundred people world-wide made use of it and
  53. provided me with valuable feedback to continually improve its function and
  54. usability.  Since my retirement from IBM, I have built an entirely new
  55. product on an OS/2 base, taking advantage of previous experience and as
  56. many native features of OS/2 that applied.  MidiLab/2 is written in 32 bit
  57. C, and utilizes a proprietary MPU device driver.
