- Chapter 2 - Installation
-
- This chapter covers the following Installation options:
-
- From the OS/2 Desktop
- From an OS/2 Command Window/Prompt
- For Ex-TAPCIS Users
-
- If you're upgrading from another program such as CIM (DOS or
- Windows), Autosig or OzCIS, check the Golden CommPass Support
- Forum for the latest conversion information.
-
- Included at the end of this chapter are notes for advanced PC
- users.
-
- From the OS/2 Desktop
-
- 1. Put your Golden CommPass Program Disk in Drive A.
-
- 2. Double-click on the Drive A object. The Drive A object
- (illustrated to the left of Figure 1) should have been
- placed on the lower right corner of your OS/2 Desktop. If
- you cannot find it there, you can find it in the Drives
- object, which can be found in the OS/2 System folder.
-
-
- [Figure 1 - Drive A Icon View]
-
- You will see five files in your Drive A Icon View Window. Two
- are text files:
-
- SOFTWARE.USE contains your Golden CommPass license
- agreement, warranty and liability information.
-
- READ.ME contains any changes to the program or the manual
- made after this manual was printed.
-
- You can read them now by double-clicking the left mouse
- button (LMB) on the icon (an OS/2 System Editor window
- will open displaying the contents of the file), or you can
- read them whenever you like. We recommend that everyone
- review the READ.ME file. When you are finished reviewing
- this file, double-click the left mouse button on the title
- bar icon in the upper left corner of the OS/2 System
- Editor Window to close the System Editor.
-
- The remaining files are the installation program and the
- Golden CommPass program (in a compressed format).

-
-
- [Figure 2 - Golden CommPass Installation Program]
-
- You will see a dialog with two entry fields that ask from where
- you're installing Golden CommPass and to where you'd like Golden
- CommPass installed. The default is from your Drive A to a
- directory called "GCP" that will be created on your Drive C. If
- this is ok,
-
- 4. Click on the Install button.
-
- Golden CommPass will install itself, and create a file folder for
- itself and its Usage Statistics program (see Appendix G, Usage
- Statistics).
-
- Note: If you want to install Golden CommPass to a hard
- drive other than C, move your mouse arrow and click on the
- "Install to" entry field. Type over the "C" with the hard
- drive letter you want. Now click on the Install button
- and Golden CommPass will install itself on the drive
- specified.
-
-
- [Figure 3 - Golden CommPass Installation Complete]
-
- When installation is complete, you'll see an "Installation
- complete" message box.
-
- 5. Click OK to return to the Drive A Icon View
- Window.
-
- 6. Double-click on the title bar icon (in the upper
- left corner of the window) to close the Drive A Icon
- View Window.
-
- A Golden CommPass folder now sits on your OS/2 Desktop.
-
- From an OS/2 Command Prompt
- 1. Put your Golden CommPass Program Disk in Drive A.
-
- 2. Open an OS/2 Command Window by double-clicking the left
- mouse button on the OS/2 Window object in the "Command
- Prompts" folder. The Command Prompts folder can be found
- in the OS/2 System Folder.
-
- 3. Type A:INSTALL as illustrated in Figure 4.
-
- [Figure 4 - OS/2 Command Window]
-
- Golden CommPass will present you with the Installation Window

- For Ex-TAPCIS Users
-
- If you're about to become an ex-TAPCIS user, you can install
- Golden CommPass in either of the two ways already described.
- When you've completed installation, the following few steps will
- allow you to migrate your TAPCIS parameters files and forum
- section files to Golden CommPass. If you follow these steps,
- you'll be able to skip most of the next chapter.
-
- From an OS/2 command prompt,
-
- 1. Type "COPY d:\TAPCIS\PARAMS.* f:\GCP\" and press ENTER,
- where d: is the appropriate disk drive and \TAPCIS\ is the
- directory where you currently have TAPCIS installed and f:
- is where Golden CommPass is installed.
-
- After your parameters files have been copied,
-
- 2. Type "COPY d:\TAPCIS\*.SEC f:\GCP\" and press ENTER,
- where d: is the appropriate disk drive and \TAPCIS\ is the
- directory where you currently have TAPCIS installed and f:
- is where Golden CommPass is installed.
-
- After your section files have been copied,
-
- 3. Type "COPY d:\TAPCIS\USERID.CIS f:\GCP\" and press ENTER,
- where d: is the appropriate disk drive and \TAPCIS\ is the
- directory where you currently have TAPCIS installed and f:
- is where Golden CommPass is installed.
-
- Note: Be sure to change the drive and directory if you have
- installed TAPCIS or Golden CommPass elsewhere.
-
- For Golden CommPass 2.0 and TAPCIS Users
-
- If you are upgrading from Golden CommPass version 2.0 or from
- TAPCIS, you will need to convert your PARAMS.CIS file to the new
- Golden CommPass format. This is described in Chapter 11, Main
- Window, Settings notebook on the Params page.
-
- Notes for Advanced PC Users
-
- As we've said, you can install Golden CommPass to a drive other
- than C. You can even give the directory a name other than GCP.
-
- If you remove the check in the "Install on OS/2 Desktop?" check
- box, you'll need to start Golden CommPass from a command prompt,
- or create your own Golden CommPass program object. This can be
- done in any of the usual ways; using a Program Template, or
- select "Create Another" from any program object's pop-up menu.
