  8. Introduction
  9. ============
  10.   Hi, thanks for downloading the second public beta of CS-Edit/2.
  11.   
  12.   This program is an intelligent CONFIG.SYS editor for OS/2 2.x
  13.   
  14.   To install :-
  15.     * unzip CSEDIT2.ZIP, using PKUNZIP2 or another unzipper, into it's own directory.
  16.     * Change into the directory you used in the above step
  17.     * Type 'INSTALL' without quotes and press Enter.
  18.  
  19.   The install should create an icon on your desktop, which you can double click
  20. on to launch the program.
  21.  
  22.   This program is being publicly beta tested on CompuServe via the OS2AVEN
  23. forum, in the Other Vendors section. We would appreciate all comments and
  24. will support the product there to the best of our ability. Feel free to make
  25. any critcisms about the product you feel will make it better.

  27. Limitations
  28. ===========
  29.   This beta copy will expire September 1st.
  30.   
  31.   We plan to have the product commercially available around this time.
  32. We have decided to slip our planned August ship date to take advantage of some
  33. new features in VisPro/REXX that we feel are very important to the usability of
  34. CS-Edit/2 (specifically multithreading).
  35.  
  36.   The 'Autocheck on start' and 'Autocheck on close' have problems with losing the focus
  37. which are currently being addressed.
  38.   
  39.   This is BETA CODE. Multitask Consulting takes no responsibility for any
  40. harm resulting from the use or non-use of this software. Multitask Consulting makes no
  41. guarantee as to the function, performance or usability of this software, whether
  42. expressed or implied. Use at your own risk.

  44.   Having said this, the software has been tested and has not yet
  45. corrupted the configuration of any of our machines.

  47. Changes from Beta V2.0

  49. 1 - Added MSC 6 SET statement support (QH, INIT, HELPFILES)
  50. 2 - Added Ignore settings page to ignore network drives/CD drives
  51. 3 - Added EMX/GNU SET statements support.
  52. 4 - Added support for some Brief statements
  53. 5 - Added OS2CDROM.DMD /R:1 parameter support
  54. 6 - Fixed AUTOSTART confused with TIMESLICE bug.
  55. 7 - Fixed bug for attempting to insert blank filenames

  57. Changes from first beta
  58. =======================
  59. 1 - VDISK.SYS, VEMM.SYS, VXMS.SYS device statements now totally supported.
  60. 2 - CS-Edit/2 can 'learn' new SET statements (such as those that point to a directory
  61. or PATH). Other support will be added next drop.
  62. 3 - Focus is given back to the listbox after other operations.
  63. 4 - SET SHELLEXCEPTIONHANDLER, SET HOSTNAME, SET SLIP.COM, SET ETC,
  64.     SET XFILES, SET GPF, SET GPFBITMAP, SET DMSQPATH, SET TEMP,
  65.     SET TMPDIR, SET DIRCMD supported.
  66. 5 - Direct edit of filenames for devices and other file selection has been added.
  67. 6 - The user is stopped from deleting TESTCFG.SYS device driver.
  68. 7 - PATH Errors not being displayed bug fixed.
  69. 8 - Lower case bugs have been fixed.
  70. 9 - Settings for warning the user have been added.
  71. 10 - An about box has been added, and the help and INFO revisited.
  72. 11 - Icons now have text in all resolutions. (XGA wasn't previously working).
  73. 12 - Saving to incorrect file bug fixed.

  75. Known enhancements (feel free to prioritize and add to!)
  76. ========================================================
  77. 1 - Ability to move lines necessary
  78. 2 - Add Change, Add and Check support for the following devices
  79.     TOUCH.SYS - Only Help Done
  80.     SIO.SYS - Not done yet.
  81.     All BASEDEVs and IFS's. (CDFS and HPFS IFS's done).
  82.     OS21MEMU/OS20MEMU device - Not done yet.
  83.     PROFIT.SYS device driver for C++ Tools.
  84. 3 - A 'smart join' of a line split by an editor that can't
  85. handle long lines should be implemented.
  86. 4 - The ability to change SET VIO_SVGA type statements should be provided, 
  87. but made simple.
  88. 5 - Ability to change VIDEO_DEVICES statement (goes with statement above)
  89. 6 - Ability of the program to know the difference between a LAN drive and 
  90. a badly specified local drive should be reflected in error/warning 
  91. messages.
  92. 7 - Adding a directory to the path could be 'duplicated' for libpath, 
  93. dpath etc
  94. 8 - Advise user to place network drives at end of path type statements 
  95. and reformat for them if they choose to do so.
  96. 9 - Possibly kick off INI Editors and other utility programs (like 
  97. Performance 2.1) from CS-Edit/2.
  98. 10 - Have a default button to set a statement to the default, or 
  99. installation value.
  100. 11 - Have a recommendation/tune/optimise button to optimise config.sys.
  101. 12 - CDROM support will be checked for all statements in the CONFIG.SYS, or none.
  102. 13 - Reconciling AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS is being worked on.
  103. 14 - Add a file type of "OS/2 Configuration" and give that file type to CONFIG.*, associate CS-Edit/2
  104. with that type.
