  9. This fix is for APAR PJ08805 -
  10.  
  11. * Can not install OS/2 2.1 on machines with > 16MB RAM, or
  12.  
  13. * If OS/2 2.1 was installed on a machine with < 16MB, and RAM was increased
  14.   above 16MB thereafter, the machine will boot continously after the first boot
  15.   attempt.

  17. Updated Module: OS2KRNLI
  18.  
  19. This fix requires the OS/2 2.1 Installation Diskette to be updated with a new
  20. OS2KRNLI file. Please follow the instructions below so that we can provide
  21. service to your machine in the future.

  23. To Install:
  24.  
  25. 1.) Create a backup of your original OS/2 2.1 Installation Diskette by doing a
  26.     DISKCOPY.
  27.  
  28. 2.) If you are unable to install:
  29.  
  30.     Copy the OS2KRNLI file from the fix diskette to the backed-up OS/2 2.1
  31.     Installation Diskette. Install OS/2 2.1 using the backed-up OS/2 2.1
  32.     Installation Diskette.
  33.  
  34.     If you have already installed but are unable to boot after increasing RAM
  35.     above 16MB:
  36.  
  37.     Copy the OS2KRNLI file from the fix diskette to the backed-up OS/2 2.1
  38.     Installation Diskette. Boot using the backed-up OS/2 2.1 Installation
  39.     Diskette and Diskette 1. When you are prompted to insert Diskette 2 to
  40.     continue the installation or escape, press the ESC key. At the command
  41.     prompt, type  C:\OS2\ATTRIB -h -s -a -r OS2KRNL
  42.     (where C: is your OS/2 partition. If you installed OS/2 in a different
  43.     partition, use that drive letter.).
  44.     Insert the fix diskette into drive A:
  45.     Type COPY A:OS2KRNLI C:OS2KRNL
  46.     Type C:\OS2\ATTRIB +h +s +a +r OS2KRNL

  48. 3.) After OS/2 2.1 is installed, you must perform the following steps. In order
  49.     for us to be able to provide service to your machine in the future, we must
  50.     save the original OS/2 2.1 GA-level OS2KRNLI file on a separate diskette,
  51.     and save the "service log" file LOGU001.OS2 in \OS2\DLL.
  52.  
  53.    1.) Start an OS/2 Full Screen session.
  54.    2.) Insert the original OS/2 2.1 Installation Diskette in drive A:
  55.    3.) At the command prompt, type "COPY A:\OS2KRNLI C:\OS2\DLL"
  56.        (where C: is your OS/2 partition. If you installed OS/2 in a different
  57.        partition, use that drive letter.)
  58.    4.) Insert a blank diskette in drive A:
  59.    5.) Type "MD A:\ARCHIVE"
  60.    6.) Type "MOVE C:\OS2\DLL\OS2KRNLI A:\ARCHIVE"
  61.        (where C: is your OS/2 partition. If you installed OS/2 in a different
  62.        partition, use that drive letter.)
  63.    7.) Type "REN A:\ARCHIVE\OS2KRNLI OS2KRNL"
  64.    8.) Print the following on a label and attach it to the diskette in drive A:
  65.        "ARCHIVE: OS2KRNL 8805VOL"
  66.        Please save this diskette as it will be needed if future service is
  67.        required for the OS2KRNL module.
  68.    9.) Insert the fix Diskette in drive A:
  69.   10.) Type "UPDATE A: C:"
  70.        (where C: is your OS/2 partition. If you installed OS/2 in a different
  71.        partition, use that drive letter.) This will update the service log,
  72.        LOGU001.OS2, on your system. This is a requirement to be
  73.        able to apply fixes to your machine in the future.
