- DO NOT APPLY THIS FIX IF YOU HAVE ALREADY APPLIED THE S3-256 PACKAGE, AND,
- DO NOT APPLY THIS FIX UNLESS YOU HAVE THE PROBLEM DESCRIBED BELOW!!
- ********************************************************************************
-
- This fix is for APAR PJ08805 -
-
- * Can not install OS/2 2.1 on machines with > 16MB RAM, or
-
- * If OS/2 2.1 was installed on a machine with < 16MB, and RAM was increased
- above 16MB thereafter, the machine will boot continously after the first boot
- attempt.
-
- Updated Module: OS2KRNLI
-
- This fix requires the OS/2 2.1 Installation Diskette to be updated with a new
- OS2KRNLI file. Please follow the instructions below so that we can provide
- service to your machine in the future.
-
- To Install:
-
- 1.) Create a backup of your original OS/2 2.1 Installation Diskette by doing a
- DISKCOPY.
-
- 2.) If you are unable to install:
-
- Copy the OS2KRNLI file from the fix diskette to the backed-up OS/2 2.1
- Installation Diskette. Install OS/2 2.1 using the backed-up OS/2 2.1
- Installation Diskette.
-
- If you have already installed but are unable to boot after increasing RAM
- above 16MB:
-
- Copy the OS2KRNLI file from the fix diskette to the backed-up OS/2 2.1
- Installation Diskette. Boot using the backed-up OS/2 2.1 Installation
- Diskette and Diskette 1. When you are prompted to insert Diskette 2 to
- continue the installation or escape, press the ESC key. At the command
- prompt, type C:\OS2\ATTRIB -h -s -a -r OS2KRNL
- (where C: is your OS/2 partition. If you installed OS/2 in a different
- partition, use that drive letter.).
- Insert the fix diskette into drive A:
- Type COPY A:OS2KRNLI C:OS2KRNL
- Type C:\OS2\ATTRIB +h +s +a +r OS2KRNL
-
- 3.) After OS/2 2.1 is installed, you must perform the following steps. In order
- for us to be able to provide service to your machine in the future, we must
- save the original OS/2 2.1 GA-level OS2KRNLI file on a separate diskette,
- and save the "service log" file LOGU001.OS2 in \OS2\DLL.
-
- 1.) Start an OS/2 Full Screen session.
- 2.) Insert the original OS/2 2.1 Installation Diskette in drive A:
- 3.) At the command prompt, type "COPY A:\OS2KRNLI C:\OS2\DLL"
- (where C: is your OS/2 partition. If you installed OS/2 in a different
- partition, use that drive letter.)
- 4.) Insert a blank diskette in drive A:
- 5.) Type "MD A:\ARCHIVE"
- 6.) Type "MOVE C:\OS2\DLL\OS2KRNLI A:\ARCHIVE"
- (where C: is your OS/2 partition. If you installed OS/2 in a different
- partition, use that drive letter.)
- 7.) Type "REN A:\ARCHIVE\OS2KRNLI OS2KRNL"
- 8.) Print the following on a label and attach it to the diskette in drive A:
- "ARCHIVE: OS2KRNL 8805VOL"
- Please save this diskette as it will be needed if future service is
- required for the OS2KRNL module.
- 9.) Insert the fix Diskette in drive A:
- 10.) Type "UPDATE A: C:"
- (where C: is your OS/2 partition. If you installed OS/2 in a different
- partition, use that drive letter.) This will update the service log,
- LOGU001.OS2, on your system. This is a requirement to be
- able to apply fixes to your machine in the future.
