  4. Instructions for viewing in OS/2:
  5.  
  6. Quick & easy way:
  7. First, copy the *.inf file to an appropriate space on your hard drive.
  8. Then, open an OS/2 Window by clicking on the "OS/2 System" folder
  9. icon, then clicking on "Command Prompts", then an OS/2 Window.
  10.  
  11. At the OS/2 prompt, type "view c:\subdir\sdin9311" without the
  12. quotation marks and where "subdir" is the subdirectory you may have
  13. made to store the file.  IF you just copied it to your root directory,
  14. then omit the subdirectory.
  15.  
  16. To set up as an icon in the OS/2 "Information" folder:
  17. Open up the "Information" folder.  Then do the following steps:
  18.  
  19. Use your right mouse button and click on the REXX Information folder
  20. (or any of the other "book" like icons you see.  Then click on "create
  21. another" then select "program".
  22.  
  23. A screen comes up where you can designate where it will be placed.
  24. For now, use the default into the information folder and press enter.
  25.  
  26. A settings folder comes up.  In the first field, type "view.exe" - I
  27. didn't need the path when I tested it.  In the parameters field, type
  28. "c:\subdir\sdin9311.inf" -- the path where you have stored the INF
  29. file.

  31. You may notice that the little icon up in the left hand corner has
  32. changed to a "book".
  33.  
  34. Select the "general" tab.  Type in the name you want the "program" to
  35. be called.  Try SDOS2UG November.  Then close the settings
  36. folder by clicking on the upper left hand little icon twice.

  38. You now have an icon to view the newsletter.  Just double-click on it
  39. and view it.  There's two ways to do it.  I spent most of my time the
  40. first time setting it up so that it would work better if you double
  41. clicked on "November Topics".  It should look "cleaner" this way.
  42. You could also click on the little "+" sign, too, but I learned the
  43. hard way how different that is when you're doing the code.  I hope to
  44. have dinner someday with the person who wrote the IPFC compiler stuff,
  45. but of course that person will just watch me eat.... :).

  57. file.

  59. I've gotten numerous requests or inquiries as to how I do the INF 
  60. newsletter.  Flattery will get you everywhere.  In the July
  61. newsletter, I started to walk you through the various aspects I go
  62. through to create what you see.  It's not all techy code talk either 
  63. -- you might find it useful to learn to not only newsletters, but 
  64. office manuals, presentations or even that annaul holiday newsletter.

  66. The biggest change in this edition of the INF is the expanded, and I
  67. do mean EXPANDED OS/2 User Group / SIG directory.  I'll let you check
  68. it out yourself and see if you don't agree.  And if you don't see your
  69. favorite OS/2 group listed, well, time to fire up the modem or even
  70. write us and let us know about you.

  72. Then, I'm starting to experiment with scanned photos as well as some of
  73. those photo cd images and how to incorporate them in here.  Check them
  74. out.  Having only a "vga" monitor is a big limitation in terms of getting
  75. a quality image sometimes <G>.  Time to upgrade?
