-
- Many popular add-in graphics adapter companies, such as Diamond Computer
- Systems, Number Nine, Orchid Technologies, and STB, customize the S3 chip
- set. For example, they may incorporate a different clock chip into their
- board design. For this reason, these S3 drivers may not be fully
- compatible with all adapters containing the S3 chip set. Contact your
- hardware vendor for drivers adapted for their boards.
-
-
- Dell Systems
-
- These S3 device drivers require updates to the BIOS on the Dell systems.

- SUPPORTED OS/2 RELEASES - OS/2 2.0, OS/2 2.0 w/Service Pack, OS/2 2.1
-
- These S3 device drivers have been implemented as 16 bit drivers allowing their
- use on OS/2 2.0 which contains a 16 bit graphics engine. In addition, the
- drivers support OS/2 2.0 with the Service Pack and OS/2 2.1, both of which
- contain a 32 bit graphics engine.
-
- FUNCTION - These OS/2 presentation device drivers contain the support for OS/2
- Presentation Manager, DOS and Microsoft** Windows** applications running under
- OS/2. DOS and Microsoft Windows applications each may be run in a window on
- the OS/2 desktop. This is referred to as "seamless". The S3 drivers exploit
- the high performance graphical user interface (GUI) accelerator functions
- offered by the S3 GUI Accelerators.
-
- FUNCTIONAL RESTRICTIONS - These presentation drivers do not support the
- following functions:
-
- 1) Presentation Manager applications which manipulate the 256 color palette
- will not actually change the color palette. Therefore, bitmap display
- applications which attempt to tune the hardware color palette for a particular
- picture will display the pictures with less fidelity.
-
- 2) Software Motion Video introduced in OS/2 2.1.
-
- 3) A small number of functions unique to multi-media applications written for
- XGA*.
-
- 4) 132 column text mode.
-
- 5) 911/924 drivers only- Under OS/2 2.0 with a 32 bit engine, the icon colors
- in the Program Manager Window are not displayed correctly.
-
- 6) Under OS/2 2.0, manually set the following parameters in order to correctly
- save and restore DOS and Win-OS/2 full screen shell:
-
- Full Screen DOS Session - VIDEO_8514_XGA_IOTRAP OFF
- WIN-OS/2 Full Screen Session - VIDEO_8514_XGA_IOTRAP OFF
- VIDEO_SWITCH_NOTIFICATION ON
-
- 7) Under OS.2 2.1, the mouse cursor in Win-OS/2 full screen has a slow
- response time.
-
-
- INSTALLATION -
- 1) If S3 drivers (1.1.or 1.0) have previously been installed, rebooting OS/2
- after installing OS/2 2.1 will result in an error message, SYS1719, for
- the file \OS2\MDOS\VENH.SYS. Simply press ENTER and ignore the
- condition and proceed to install the S3 drivers.
-
- 2) Please note that three sets of software are provided: 911/924, 80X/928 for
- use with AT&T 491 DAC, and 928 with Brooktree (BT) 485 DAC.
-
- 3) Choose one set of files and copy all files to the same subdirectory in
- the hard disk.
-
- 4) Run the supplied S3INSTL.CMD batch file in either an OS/2 window or full
- screen.
-
- 5) Please read the license agreement which will be displayed.
-
- 6) If you agree to the license agreement enter "Y" to proceed with the
- installation. Otherwise enter "N" to terminate the installation.
-
-
-
- NOTE: If you receive the following message, the answer is YES.
-
- The target file 'filename' is newer than the source file. Do you want to
- overwrite the target file? (Y or N)
