Technical Information for Logical Journey of the Zoombinis(TM)
Version 1.1
14th November, 1997
WINDOWS 3.1 and WINDOWS 95
Performance and Technical Tips
1. If you experience any problems launching, tasking out
or quitting Logical Journey of the Zoombinis please do
the following:
a. Go into the Windows folder on your hard drive and look for the
QTW.INI file.
b. Open the QTW.INI file and make sure that
the line Optimize=Driver is placed under [Video]. It should appear as:
Optimize=Driver
In our testing, we've found that many systems using video boards
with an S3 chip may experience difficulties
launching Logical Journey of the Zoombinis. Following the above instructions
should help the program run more smoothly.
2. Your screen saver may interfere with Logical Journey
of the Zoombinis. Please make sure that your screen saver
is turned off before you start the program.
3. Left-handed users - you will be able to use either the
right or left mouse button to play the program. However,
both mouse buttons may not function properly if your
Windows mouse settings are set
to left hand settings. Before starting, make sure your
mouse button is set to the Windows default of right hand settings.
4. If you are in Practice Mode and quit the program,
you will not be prompted to save your game. Make sure
to save your game before going into Practice Mode. Please
see the User's Manual for Logical Journey of
the Zoombinis for more details.
6. After installing in Windows 3.1, Logical Journey of the Zoombinis
will run WinG. WinG is a program that analyzes and
adjusts your computer system to optimize graphics
performance and will take approximately two minutes to run.
WinG will only run the first time you install Logical Journey of
the Zoombinis in Windows 3.1, or if you adjust your video settings.
7. If you encounter problems with sound or graphics
quality while playing, please check to see that you
have the latest device drivers. Our testing has shown
that Logical Journey of the Zoombinis may display
certain graphic anomalies with the Diamond Stealth VRAM and
Tseng ET4000 video boards. The User's Manual for Logical Journey of the Zoombinis
has a listing of companies and their phone numbers
in the "If You Can't Get Started" section.
By contacting these companies, you should be able to
obtain the most recent video, sound, and CD-ROM drivers
for your peripheral hardware.
8. If you have a Packard Bell machine and you receive the error "Cannot Open
File Handler" while in Windows 3.1, the problem is occuring
because some of the QuickTime files are hidden and the 2.0.3 QuickTime for Windows installer
can't replace them. Please make the following change:
From a DOS prompt type:
cd\Windows <enter>
ATTRIB -H *.* <enter>
cd\Windows\System <enter>
ATTRIB -H *.* <enter>
This will remove the "Hidden" attribute from all the files.
After doing the ATTRIB command, return to Windows and
run the QuickTime install of Logical Journey of the Zoombinis.
If you continue to experience difficulties with running Logical
Journey of the Zoombinis, please contact Br°derbund Europe Customer Service,
Monday to Friday during normal business hours on 01429-273029 or by fax on 01429-521005.
