  4. entered after the name  which  brought  the  SAM76  language`
  5. interpreter into action from the operating system.

  9. The value  of  this function is the file size as a number of`
  10. 256 byte records.

  14. The value  of  this  function  is  a  list  of the functions`
  15. available in the "dsk" disk overlay. Each function  name  is`
  16. preceded with the string symbolized by "s0".

  20. The value of this function is the current setting of the file`
  21. extension.

  27. all  extensions are accessed. If "s" is made null then files`

  33. currently active directory unit.

  42. suggests very little need for simultaneous access to several`
  43. files  because  of  the  wide variety of other means of file`
  44. management available within the SAM76 language  system.  The`
  45. main  purpose in providing the foregoing set of functions is`
  46. primarily to  permit  conversion  of  "conventional"  system`
  47. files  to  SAM76  organized  file  structures,  or to create`
  48. "conventional" files from SAM76 files.

  52. This null  valued  function  will  write out to a previously`
  53. properly opened file the string symbolized by "s". There  is`
  54. no  specified limit as to the number of characters in string`
  55. "s".

  59. The value  of  this  function  is  one  record  from  a file`
  60. previously opened  using  the  "dif"  designate  input  file`
  61. function.  Typically this will be 128 characters, except for`
  62. the last record of the file which may be less than that.

  66. This null valued function is used to open a file for output.`
  67. Such output is attained through use of the "wfr" write  file`
  68. record  function or through use of the "soc,FIL" function to`
  69. the desired SAM76  language  function  designed  to  deliver`
  70. output.

  72. "filename" is  defined  in  the same manner as for the "dif"`
  73. designate input file function. A file is  explicitly  closed`
  74. by  executing %dof/= with no arguments. Exit using control C`
  75. or the "ex" exit function does not close the file.

  79. This function  serves  to open a disk file for access either`
  80. through use of the "rfr" read file record function,  or  via`
  81. channel  control  assignment  of  "FIL"  to any of the SAM76`
  82. language functions that are designed to accept input.

  85. access.  This  may  be of the form "name.ext", or just plain`
  86. "name" if the extension has been preset to either  "???"  or`
  87. some  other  explicit extension through use of the "sfe" set`
  88. file extension function.

  93. The file  functions which are available to permit assignment`
  94. via   the   channel  control  mechanism  of  SAM76  language`
  95. functions are defined as follows:

  101. manner that the system will not be "hung" in a mode that  is`
  102. difficult  to recover from. Also judicious use of the "nud",`
  103. and "sem" functions should be considered.

  108. is symbolized by "sym" one of the two groups  of  functions:`
  109. if  this  function is executed actively the assignment is of`

  111. Group 2 functions.

  137. may be used in the "sic" select input channel function; each`
  138. name in the value  returned  is  preceded  with  the  string`
  139. symbolized  by  "s0". Typical of these channel names are the`

  143. RDR     Reader
  144. FIL     A disk file opened with the "dif" function
  145. USR     A device whose driver adress is at UIC location

  150. Means are  provided within the SAM76 language interpreter to`
  151. reassociate these two groups with other devices  than  those`
  152. normally  assigned.  This  is independent of the assignments`
  153. that may be made using the "IOBYTE" if available; note  that`
  154. the  assignments  will  however  be  made within the general`
  155. framework of the IOBYTE setting as modified through  use  of`
  156. the "sio" set IO function.

  164. with  the  so  called  "Reader"  and  "Punch"  channels  {as`

  167. xperimental  user  transmit,  and  "xu,rcv" xperimental user`
  168. receive.
