- KP-HOST.LBR
-
- This library contains the ASM file that is the basis of of KPBYE5,
- a remote host program set up for Kaypro computers by Irv Hoff. It
- is a special configuration of BYE5 for this purpose.
-
- (Note that KPBYE5.LBR was previously released without the ASM file
- and with a version of BYE.COM that does not require a password.
- In this version the password [PWRQD] equate has been set to yes
- and a password is required--and recommended for security.
-
- The library includes, in addition to this ASM file, a compiled
- version of it called BYE.COM which has a default password of DDT.
- (This password can be changed to any other desired. Go into the
- ASM file with a non-doc editor, search for DDT and replace it,
- then reassemble and load.)
-
- There is also a version of BYE included that does not require a
- password. This is called BYE-NPW.COM (for No Password). If you
- chose to use this version, rename it to BYE.COM and the other
- version to BYE-PW (for Password).
-
- The version of KMD included supports the 1K protocol and also
- the batch mode. 1k protocol is automatic. To invoke the batch mode,
- use KMD SB FILENAME.EXT and on the other end, all that is needed
- is RB.
-
- This program works perfectly as a remote host. It can be used for
- two friends to communicate by computer, exchange conversion on
- the keyboard, or to exchange software and texts. It works by
- first calling up BYE in A0, then turning on the modem. A short
- file called welcome should be created with an editor, which
- is automatically run on logging in. Note that after logging off
- with BYE, the program disconnects in about 30 seconds and then
- reloads itself and waits for the next call.
-
- The program can also be used to call into one computer from a
- laptop, or from the computer at work to the one at home or
- vice-versa. In these cases, where the host computer will be
- on for an extended period, it is best to use the version of
- BYE that requires a password.
-
- For those who have the Advent Turborom, which automatically blanks
- the screen after about 10 minutes of non-use, the program NOBLANK.COM
- is included. Run this before running BYE and the screen will not
- blank until the computer is reset.
-
- I have taken the liberty of adding several useful BBS utilities here,
- to let this program function as much as possible like a mini-BBS (
- although it does not have the security of a regular BBS). These include
- LUX.COM, CHAT.COM, and TYPE.COM. (If LT.COM is used, rename to TYPE.COM).
- Rename SD.COM to DIR (the program expects to find this.) Also
- rename KPLUX22.COM to LUX.COM. In order to reset itself, BYE looks
- for the program name BYE.COM. The utility CAP command is also
- included form KP-I/OCAP.LBR. It is a capture program that works,
- but not perfectly. If someone knows of a better capture program,
- please add it to this library and make a note of that.
-
- For those with other computers that would like to get this system
- up and running, replace the Kaypro insert in the ASM file with
- the proper one, set a password and assemble.
-
- Irv Hoff has done a wonderful job putting this remote host
- together. Many thanks, Irv!
