Heart-leaved four-o'clock grows in dry, sandy or gravelly soil in prairies, woodland openings, on lake beaches, in gravel pits, and along roadsides. It competes well with other plants of a similar size, but is not overly aggressive. Good for hot, dry, sunny places.
