KNOWN PROBLEMS IN THIS RELEASE OF NETSCAPE GOLD PERSONAL EDITION
INTERNET STARTUP
* You must have at least a 256 color display. If you do not have
a 256 color display, you may still install Netscape Personal
Edition:
From the Windows 3.1 Program Manager, select File | Run. Under
Windows 95, select the Start Menu | Run. Enter the command:
D:\PEINSTL\SETUP.EXE
If your CD-ROM is not installed on drive D:\, type the letter of
your CD-ROM drive instead of D:\.
* You are required to install Netscape Navigator Personal Edition first,
before installing the accompanying plug-ins.
* When installing plug-ins, the Internet Startup Shell will search for
an installed Netscape.exe file. If this file is not found, you will
be prompted to 'Please locate your copy of Netscape Navigator
(Netscape.exe). Select 'OK.'
Next, you will be prompted with a browsing dialog that will allow
you to search for the installed Netscape.exe file. If you installed
Netscape Navigator Personal Edition3.0 to its default location,
the .exe file can be found in the following directories:
Win3.1:
c:\Netscape\netscape.exe
Win95:
c:\Program Files\Netscape\Navigator\Program\netscape.exe
Once you have located Netscape.exe, select it and hit 'OK.' The install
process will begin for the selected plug-in.(after netscape.exe is found,
the shell will remember the location of the file unless you EXIT).
"INSTALL MORE COOL SOFTWARE" contains:
-------------------------------------
-PCN PointCastNetwork
-Inso WordViewer
-Visual Components' Formula One/NET
-Macromedia's Shockwave5.0
-ASAP WebShow
-EasyPhoto
-Infoaccess' Net Transit
-Inso CyberSpell
-Symantec's Norton Anti-Virus Internet Scanner.

EJECTING the CD:
* Always press the Exit button to close Internet Startup. Do not
remove the CD from your CD-ROM drive while Internet Startup is
running.
If you remove the CD while Internet Startup is still running,
Windows will display error dialogs. Put the CD back into your
computer, and press the Enter key to dismiss any error dialogs.
INSTALL WIZARD, ACCOUNT SETUP WIZARD, AND DIALER
* Windows 3.1
* If you are upgrading from a previous version of Netscape Personal
Edition, you should install Netscape Personal Edition in the same
location as your old version. The Install Wizard will prompt you
to install on top of your previous version.
If you choose to install in a different directory, you may find
that you cannot log into your Internet Service Provider. Follow
these steps to log into your Internet account.
1. In Program Manager, select your dialer file. Select File |
Properties. The "Command Line" will show you the path to your
dialer file. (Your dialer file should have a file name that
ends with ".SR" and should be in a directory called "dialer".)
2. Change the path in the Command Line to point to your new dialer
directory. For example, if your old version was installed in a
directory called "C:\OldStuff" and you installed Netscape
Personal Edition 3.0 in "C:\NewStuff", you should change your
command line from "C:\OldStuff\Dialer\MyISP.SR" to
"C:\NewStuff\Dialer\MyISP.SR"
* If Personal Edition 1.1 is installed on your system, the
Install Wizard will ask you to deinstall Personal Edition 1.1.
Clicking the "Back" button will deinstall your old version of
Personal Edition. If you do not wish to uninstall, click
Cancel.
* If your modem is not listed in Modem Wizard's list of modems,
first try the Hayes compatible setting. If the "Hayes compatible"
setting does not work, try the "Generic" setting.
* By default, the dialer adds "1" plus the area code to numbers
outside your area code.
To change this behavior:
1. Double-click on your ISP's dialer icon.
2. Click the "Properties..." button.
3. The Locations tab should be displayed. At the bottom of the
dialog, there are two checkboxes.
4. Click the "Dial a 1 for long distance" checkbox to turn on
or off dialing 1.
5. Click the "Dial area code" checkbox to turn on or off dialing
the area code.
* Windows 95
* If you have configured Microsoft TCP/IP to use DNS (Domain Name
Service), you may not be able to connect to internet hosts through
your Dial-Up Networking connection. Your Dial-Up Networking
connection contains its own fields for your ISP's name servers,
which will be not be used if you have specified name servers in your
Microsoft TCP/IP configuration.
The Account Setup Wizard will warn you if you have configured
Microsoft TCP/IP to use DNS. If you see this warning, double-click
the Online Books icon in your Navigator program group. Under "Tips,
Techniques and Troubleshooting," for Windows 95 users, read the
topic on "DNS configuration in Windows 95" to either modify or
disable DNS.
