  7. DIRECTIONS
  8. The Recreation Area consists of four units. Three are in New York: Jamaica Bay Unit, Brooklyn; Breezy Point Unit, on the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens; Staten Island Unit; on Raritan Bay in Staten Island. The fourth area is the Sandy Hook Unit, on a peninsula in Monmouth County in the northeast corner of New Jersey. Mass transit and driving are available from Park Headquarters.

  10. WHEN TO VISIT
  11. Open year round. Full services available Memorial Day through September 30. Beaches are closed during Winter. Climate: January, 18 to 40 degrees F; July, 75 to 86 degrees F.

  14. With beaches, marshes, islands, historic structures, military installations, airfields, a lighthouse, and adjacent waters in New York harbor, this Park offers urban residents a wide range of recreational opportunities and historical perspectives.

  17. Visitor Center; museum/exhibits; NPS guided tours; self-guiding tours/trails; picnic areas; group campsites; hiking; horseback riding; swimming; bathhouse; boating; boat ramp; fishing; bicycle trail; cross-country ski trail.

  19. GENERAL INFORMATION
  20. Primitive campsites are available for organized youth groups. Snacks and fast food are available in all four units. Food, supplies, and overnight accommodations are available in Sandy Hook, Red Bank, Highlands, Staten Island, Jamaica Bay, Boroughs of Brooklyn and Staten Island.
