The Park is twelve miles northeast of Washington, D.C. From the Capital Beltway (I-95) take Exit 23 at Kenilworth Avenue (MD 201), go south toward Bladensburg, and follow the signs to the Park. From the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, exit at Greenbelt Road (MD 193) and follow signs.

There are twelve miles of hiking trails leading through the Park. A six-mile bridle trail circles the Park's western half. The Park contains a 174-site campground.
