  8. The Battlefield is in the north part of the state, close to the West Virginia border. Eleven miles south of Hagerstown of Highway 65.

  10. WHEN TO VISIT
  11. Open year round. The wayside audio stations and historic church are not open November to March. Peak visitor month is September. Winters are cold, Summers are hot.

  13. POINTS OF INTEREST
  14. General Robert E. Lee's first invasion of the North was ended on this Battlefield in 1862. Antietam (Sharpsburg) National Cemetery--5,032 interments, 1,836 unidentified--adjoins the Park; grave space is not available.
