DIRECTIONS
The Park is situated on the "horseshoe bend" of the Tallapoosa River. The Park is located on AL-49, twelve miles north of Dadeville (US 280)and eighteen miles east of Alexander City (US 280) by way of New Site.
WHEN TO VISIT
Open daily, year-round, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Holiday Closings: December 25. Alabama has a mild climate. January temperatures average 38 to 56 degrees F; July temperatures average 66 to 90 degrees F. Average yearly precipitation is 48 to 56 inches.
POINTS OF INTEREST
On March 27, 1814, General Andrew Jackson's forces defeated the Creek Indians in a battle, which opened Alabama and other parts of the Old Southwest to settlement. The Park has a visitor center and museum.
ACTIVITIES
Interpretive and audiovisual exhibits, as well as flintlock fire arm demonstrations, are provided when staffing permits. Picnicking, hiking, auto and walking tours, boating, and fishing are available. The Park contains nature trails which vary from three to seven miles in length, a boat launching ramp, and picnic area.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Vehicles are restricted to paved roads. There are no overnight accommodations on site, but can be acquired at Dadeville, or Alexander City. Each city has hospitals. Meals are not served in the Park, nor are food and supplies obtainable; however, meals, food, and supplies are available nearby. Hazards to be watchful for are poisonous snakes, fire ants, and poison ivy. Be cautious while boating and walking along the river bank. Pets are to be kept on a leash.
