  6. DIRECTIONS
  7. The Park is in the southwestern part of the state, near the Wyoming border. The Visitor Center is eleven miles from Hot Springs on Highway US 385.

  9. WHEN TO VISIT
  10. Open year round. Peak visitor month is August. Climate: Winter, 0 to 34 degrees F; Summer, 85 to 92 degrees F.

  12. POINTS OF INTEREST
  13. This limestone cave in the scenic Black Hills is decorated by beautiful boxwork and calcite crystal formations. Above ground an unusual ecosystem that marks the boundary between the mixed-grass prairie and the ponderosa pine forests. Wildlife includes prairie falcons, meadowlarks, nut hatches, and wild turkeys, as well as bison, pronghorn antelope, mule deer, elk, and prairie dogs. Below the ground lies Wind Cave, over fifty-three miles of passages. The name comes from the strong winds that rush in and out of its mouth.
