  8. The Riverways are in the southeast part of the state. Van Buren is located on Highway 60, 175 miles south of St. Louis and 250 miles southeast of Kansas City.

  11. Open year round. Peak visitor month is July. Summers are hot; Winters are mild.

  13. POINTS OF INTEREST
  14. The 134 miles of the Current and Jacks Fork Rivers provide canoeing, tubing, fishing, and swimming opportunities. Nearly 100 Springs pour thousands of gallons of clear, cold, blue water into the streams. Ozark culture is preserved throughout the area. This is the first national scenic river.

  19. GENERAL INFORMATION
  20. Many miles of old logging roads are used for hiking. Nine miles of the Ozark Trail lie within the Riverways. When completed, the trail will extend from St. Louis County to the Arkansas border. Cabins are available at Big Spring Unit and Alley Spring. Food and supplies are available in the Park at Akers, Pulltite, Round, Two Rivers, and Alley Springs. Food, supplies, and overnight accommodations are available in surrounding towns of Eminence, Van Buren, Salem, Ellington, Mountain View, Winona, and Birch Tree.
