  8. The Park is in the southeastern part of the State, close to the Texas border. The Visitor Center is seven miles west of Whites City. The Park is twenty miles southwest of Carlsbad, just off US 62-180. El Paso, Texas, is 150 miles west.

  10. WHEN TO VISIT
  11. Open year round. Peak visitor month is July. The underground temperature in the Caverns remains a constant 56 degrees F. Climate: January, 30 to 57 degrees F; July, 68 to 92 degrees F, with highs of 106. Spring is mild and sunny.

  13. POINTS OF INTEREST
  14. This series of connected caverns, with one of the world's largest underground chambers, has countless formations. The Park contains 76 separate caves, including the Nation's deepest--1,565 feet--and third longest.

  17. Visitor Center; museum/exhibits; NPS guided tours; self-guiding tours/trails; picnic areas; backcountry use; hiking.

  20. Wear low-heeled, non-skid shoes and a jacket in the caverns. Watch out for Rattlesnakes. The Visitor Center has a kennel for pets, since they are not allowed in caves or backcountry. Food, supplies, and overnight accommodations are available in White City and Carlsbad.
