The Park is located in the central and eastern part of the state. Go north on Highway 41 from Fresno, or east on Highway 140 or Highway 120 from Merced (seventy miles), and from Lee Vining take Highway 120 to the Tioga Pass Entrance. Tour buses are available in Merced and Fresno; Amtrak provides service to Merced, Fresno, and Madera; air service is available to Merced and Fresno.
WHEN TO VISIT
Open year round. Peak visitor month is August. Tuolumne Grove, Glacier Point Road, and Tioga Road are closed from November to May. Climate: January, 7 to 47 degrees F; July, 53 to 90 degrees F. Precipitation: January, 6.6; July, 0.4.
POINTS OF INTEREST
Granite peaks and domes rise high above broad meadows in the heart of the Sierra Nevada; groves of giant sequoias dwarf other trees and tiny wildflowers; and mountains, lakes, and waterfalls, including the Nation's highest, are found here.
Campground reservations may be obtained through MISTIX, 1-800-365-2267; and lodging through Yosemite Park and Curry Company, 209-252-4848. Overnight accommodations are available at Yosemite Valley, White Wolf, Wawona, Tuolumne Meadows, and the Five High Sierra Camps. Campgrounds are first-come, first-served, but it may be a good idea to get reservations. There are so many beautiful places to see and exciting things to do, plan to spend more than one day in the Park. The Pioneer Yosemite History Center is at Wawona, Valley Visitor Center is in Yosemite Valley, and another Visitor Center is located at Tuolumne Meadows.
