  7. The Monument is located seventeen miles north of San Francisco by Highways 101 and 1. Tours are available from San Francisco.

  10. Open year round. Peak visitor month is April. Climate is moderate, but oftentimes cool enough for a jacket.

  13. This virgin stand of coastal redwoods was named for John Muir, writer and conservationist.
