  5. Aujourd'hui, ce terme dΘsigne une voix fΘminine au registre grave si on le compare α celui du soprano. Autrefois, il dΘsignait une voix masculine au registre aigu (de l'Italien "alto" qui signifie "haut"). Comme voix fΘminine, on l'appelle aussi contralto.
