The Triad is one of the most basic chords, consisting of three tones played together with the intervals of thirds between each two, or, in other words, a third and a fifth from the lowest (root) note.
When the triad consists of a major third and, upon it, a minor one, it is called a major triad. When the major third is placed above the minor third, the triad is a minor triad.
