This is the most solemn daily service in the Catholic Church. It is usually performed by a priest and assisted by other members of the church, as well as by a choir and instrumental accompaniment.
The complete Mass is performed only on special days.

The name of the Mass is derived from the last words of the Mass: "Ite, missa est congregatio", which means; "You can go, the congregation is dismissed".
Most composers preferred to set music only to the sung Ordinarium, which consists of five movements: Kyrie-Gloria-Credo-Sanctus-Agnus Dei. Thus, almost all masses (from the Baroque onwards) consist of these five movements and the same text.
