  1. Cadenza for Windows v 1.09 DEMO

  3. After you read this information Install will run the 
  4. Addports program to finish the install process. 
  5. Select the driver that most closely matches your interface.
  6. Also see the last section in this file for further 
  7. information.

  9. Thanks for trying the Cadenza for Windows Demo. This file 
  10. covers some information not covered in the DEMO.DOC file.

  12. This Demo is fully working with the following execptions -

  14. You cannot save anything. Sorry, but we want you to buy it!

  16. The Demo version of the MIDI Director will only run one 
  17. interface driver and will only support one program at a
  18. time.

  33. **************** Now Supports Multimedia Windows
  34.  
  35. Cadenza will now run with the Multimedia extentions installed
  36. in Enhanced Mode, not just in standard mode as in the past.
  37. The MIDI Director will use the Multimedia Timer if it is 
  38. available and can also use the Multimedia MIDI and Synthesizer
  39. drivers. See the section on MIDI Interface Drivers for more
  40. information.

  42. **************** Activating the Tool Box in event edit windows
  43.  
  44. The manual is a little vague on how to activate the event edit 
  45. Tool Boxes. It is really easy. When you are in an event edit window
  46. pressing the right mouse button activates the tool box.

  48. **************** NEW MENU COMMANDS
  49.  
  50. The following have been added to the Edit menu: 
  51.  
  52. Mark to Start   Creates a block marked region from the beginning
  53.                 of the song to the current song position.
  54.  
  55. Mark to End     Creates a block marked region from the current
  56.                 song position to the end of the song.
  57.  
  58. Mark All        Block marks the entire song. Actually it removes
  59.                 all block marking. This has the same effect as
  60.                 marking the whole song.

  62. Note: The above commands remove any current block marking.

  126. displayed.

  130. Notes about the MIDI Interface Drivers
  131. =======================================================
  132. *** Using the MIDI Director -> MultiMedia Extentions Interface
  133.  
  134. The MIDI Director and Cadenza for Windows now supports
  135. the MultiMedia Extentions. The MIDI Director will use the
  136. Multimedia timer, if it is installed, and with the help of
  137. the Multimedia Interface driver, it will use any Multimedia
  138. driver. This means you can use both a MIDI interface and
  139. a sound card, like a Sound Blaster, at the same time.
  140.  
  141. You must have Windows 3.1 or Windows 3.0 with the Multimedia
  142. Extentions installed to use this driver.
  143.  
  144. The Multimedia Interface driver will load all of your MME
  145. MIDI drivers and treat them as one multiport interface. You 
  146. can use the MIDI Director Preferences program to exclude
  147. some Multimedia drivers when running the MIDI Director. This
  148. is valuable if you are running other Multimedia compatible
  149. programs and need to use the MME MPU401 driver. But when you
  150. run the MIDI Director, you should use the MPU401 driver we
  151. provide. This is because our drivers work better with the
  152. MIDI Director than MME drivers do. If you have a Music 
  153. Quest MQX-32M interface, the MME drivers do not recognize
  154. the second port or the tape sync functions. The Big Noise 
  155. MQX driver does. This allows you to get the most from your
  156. interfaces. The general rule is that if we supply a driver,
  157. use it instead of the Multimedia driver.
  158.  
  159. *** Notes on the MPU-401 and MQX drivers. 
  160.  
  161. The MPU-401 and MQX-32m drivers are identical except for two 
  162. features. The MQX-32m driver adds SMPTE and the MPU-401 driver 
  163. has a flag for compatibility with CMS cards. The compatibility 
  164. flag is really not necessary, since we also supply CMS-401-II 
  165. and CMS-444 drivers in the retail package. Both interface 
  166. drivers will work with the MPU-401, MPU-IPC, MPU-IMC, MQX-16S, 
  167. MQX-32m cards and other MPU-401 compatibles. But if you want to 
  168. use SMPTE on the Music Quest interfaces, you must use the 
  169. MQX-32m driver. The MPU-401 driver will sense the dual outputs 
  170. on your MQX-32m, just as the MQX driver does, but you can not use
  171. the built in SMPTE on your MQX-16s or MQX-32m.

  173. *** Notes on the Sound Blaster MIDI Driver
  174.  
  175. The SBMIDI.DLL Soundblaster driver will work with both the older 
  176. and the newer Soundblaster models. The older Soundblasters could 
  177. not do MIDI Input while they did MIDI Output. To use the SBMIDI 
  178. driver with these older cards, set the DSP flag to 0. You must 
  179. then de-activate the input from the MIDI Director Control Panel, 
  180. to beable to send MIDI Data to its output. If you have one of 
  181. these older Soundblasters, Creative Labs will send you new 
  182. DSP Chips that will allow simultaneous MIDI input and output
  183. for a very small charge. If you want to do serious MIDI, you
  184. need the newer DSP.

  186. *** Note on the CMS-444 interfaces
  187.  
  188. The CMS-444 comes in two models, one with two ports and another 
  189. with four ports. To use the supplied CMS-444 driver with the two 
  190. port model of this card, you must set the 'Number of Ports'
  191. parameter in the Addports port setup for this card to 2. If 
  192. you leave it set to 4, your machine will crash.

  194. *** Notes on The Key MIDIATOR
  195.  
  196. The MIDIATOR is a great little interface. It comes in a 1 output 
  197. and a 3 output model. The 1 output model is the MS-101 and the 
  198. 3 output model is the MS-103. Be sure you use the correct driver, 
  199. since you will get strange results if you select the wrong one.
