The SRC opted [PARA]out of NUS in 1979. St Andrew's has been seen as a [PARA]breeding-ground for bright-eyed Tory libertarians, but the usual [PARA]no-labels attitude seems to apply these days, although student [PARA]debt gets 'em marching. [EITAL][PARA][PARA][ITAL][HDNG]SU FACILITIES:[EHDNG][EITAL][PARA]The Union has facilities at St Mary's Place: 4 bars; cafeteria; [PARA]travel agency; general shop; Clydesdale cashpoint; TV lounge; [PARA]launderette; photocopying; photo booth; 1 minibus for hire; games [PARA]and vending machines; pool table; juke; 5 meeting rooms; 2 [PARA]conference halls; 2 nightclub/discos; parking.[HDNG]CLUBS (NON SPORTING):[EHDNG][PARA]Amnesty International; Asian; Ballroom Dancing; Bongo; [PARA]Breakaway (trips to remote parts of Scotland); Bridge; Celtic; [PARA]Dead Parrot; Gilbert and Sullivan; High Handicappers (Golf).[HDNG]OTHER ORGANISATIONS:[EHDNG][PARA]'The Chronicle' and 'Insane' are the student newspapers. 'Squib' [PARA]is an arts magazine and 'Gryphon' features student poetry. The [PARA]charity campaign raised ú15,000 last year, but there's also the [PARA]Kate Kennedy Club (named after the niece of the University's [PARA]founder), which is an all-male charitable club which raised an [PARA]additional ú2,000 last year. Each year, they hold a parade with [PARA]horse-drawn carriages and costumed characters. There's also [PARA]the Union Debating Society, a ([ITAL]pompous[EITAL]) talk shop.[HDNG]RELIGIOUS:[EHDNG][PARA][STAT][BULL] 1 chaplain[ESTAT][PARA]The University chaplaincy, city churches and cathedral cater for [PARA]most versions of Christianity.[HDNG]PAID WORK:[EHDNG][PARA]A bit in the local tourist and golfing trade - hotels, golf bars and so[PARA]on. [ITAL] Caddying isn't as easy as you'd think, though[EITAL].
