[HDNG]INTRODUCTION:[EHDNG][PARA][BULL] The College is part of University of Oxford and students are [PARA]entitled to use its facilities.[EBOLD][PARA]Near the Bod (the Bodleian Library), 300 yards from Carfax, are [PARA]the golden grey stone buildings of Wadham College, which [PARA]featured in the filming of 'Brideshead Revisited'. [ITAL]The College may[PARA]look like the 'Brideshead' stereotype, but the atmosphere is more [PARA]progressive [EITAL]and it is perhaps significant that it was the first to be [PARA]founded by a woman (Dorothy Wadham).[ITAL] [EITAL] The old main buildings[PARA]centre around a large grassy Jacobean quad and are surrounded [PARA]by gardens, the Ho Chi Minh Quad (beats 'Mandela') and newer [PARA]buildings including some [ITAL]dead dapper [EITAL]new accommodation [PARA]blocks, the library and SU. [ITAL]The SU is an important part of [PARA]Wadham which has a deservedly liberal and politically active [PARA]reputation. We could almost say it was right on. It's certainly [PARA]less stuffy than most colleges and has eager ents.[EITAL][PARA][PARA][ITAL]Chic [EITAL]new bar; theatre; King's Arms pub almost in grounds; [PARA]classical concerts in Holywell Music Room (cap 150); fortnightly [ITAL][PARA]top [EITAL]bops, cabaret, bands (including recently Verve and Suede) [PARA]and other regular events in the JCR (200); ball every 3 years. [PARA]'Wadham Sound' news sheet; 'Wadwords' termly slag mag; [PARA]chapel. 6 acres of playing fields 11/2 miles; some sports facilities [PARA]on site. Only 1st years and finalists live in; [ITAL]good [EITAL]self-catering [PARA]amenities; livers in eat in cafeteria; formal meals in dining hall.
