Its [ITAL]superb [EITAL]buildings (recently the set for Merchant-Ivory's 'Howard's End'), 1/2 mile from Carfax, are set in 100 acres of grounds, which include over a mile of riverside walks, as well as a deer park. The surroundings attract a plague of tourists. The [ITAL]old fashioned[EITAL] bar (crossed oars, etc) overlooks the river.[ITAL] [EITAL]The Magdalen May Morning celebration[ITAL] is especially enchanting, [EITAL]coming to a climax when the choir sings from the top of Magdalen's Tower (as seen in 'Shadowlands')[ITAL]. Anyone would think Anthony Hopkins had taken up residence.[EITAL][PARA][PARA]Bar (cap 200) and JCR (150) used for student bands; classical concerts in the chapel (200); fortnightly bops; Commemoration Ball every 3 years, [ITAL]one of the biggies[EITAL]. 5 libraries (only 3 for student use; 100,000 books total); 20 computers; Anglican chapel; student mag ('The Alternative'). [ITAL]Great [EITAL]sports fields 10mins walk; 4 squash courts in College. Everyone lives in; 27[ITAL] [EITAL]kitchens for undergrads. Doctor and nurse; [ITAL]College is responsive to students' problems[EITAL]. Walk scheme escorts women home till 2am; free attack alarms provided.
