[HDNG]INTRODUCTION:[EHDNG][PARA][BULL] The Institute is part of University of London and students are [PARA]entitled to use its facilities.[EBOLD][PARA]In a 70s block in Bloomsbury, near the London University central [PARA]facilities, is the Institute of Education, [ITAL]the spitting image of a car [PARA]park[EITAL]. It teaches mostly 1 year postgraduate education courses [PARA](PGCEs), but does take a very few teachers, returning to [PARA]education (mostly part time) to get a BEd degree and various [PARA]other postgrad, research and diploma courses in education. As a[PARA]result, all the students are mature and [ITAL]the social community of [PARA]the Institute takes 2nd place (if not 3rd or 4th) to academic [PARA]concerns. The Union isn't radical and firebreathing, but its 2 [PARA]sabbaticals get things organised. [EITAL]There's a new student [PARA]newsletter, SUN[ITAL].[EITAL] For more studenty pursuits, there's ULU, and [PARA]many other colleges just round the corner.[PARA][PARA][BOLD]Being A Student In London: [EBOLD]see [ULNE]University of London[EULNE]. The Union [PARA]cafeteria is [ITAL]dead except at lunch time and deader still when [PARA]students are out on teaching training in schools[EITAL]. The Union bar is [PARA]frequented by the [ITAL]dominant [EITAL]crowd of overseas students. Other [PARA]entertainments extend to discos (cap 200) once a month, and the[PARA]popular International Food evenings.[PARA]The Institute has a single catered hall of residence - a 30s style [PARA]building within walking distance of Bedford Way - which has a [PARA]self-catering annexe. All rooms are aimed at the needs of [PARA]mature students and are sometimes suitable for students with [PARA]children. 161 students can be housed (mostly overseas students) [PARA]in catered places (ú66-ú77/wk) and 37 in self-catering [PARA](ú48-ú60/wk). The Institute has an Accommodation Officer to [PARA]help livers out. Apart from a few clubs, students have to resort to[PARA]the University for other services.[PARA][PARA]
