A new communist wave [PARA]sweeping the world into armed revolution is extremely unlikely to [PARA]start in Cardiff. This Union's plat du jour is commercial rather [PARA]than political. It's hard to fault the Union on this since it's a [PARA]gourmet SU with some of the country's best facilities in a [PARA]purpose-built Union Building and a cash-flow that puts the fun [PARA]back in funding. [EITAL][PARA]The Union has a Welsh language policy and all signs and many [PARA]publications are bilingual. Every year there's a Welsh [PARA]Awareness Week.[HDNG]SU FACILITIES:[EHDNG][PARA]Ready, steady, go... 7 bars, 5 cafeterias and sandwich bars, [PARA]minibus hire (about 15 buses!), travel agencies, printing service [PARA]and photocopying, 2 shops (general, food, new and 2nd hand [PARA]books and stationery), Midlands and Lloyds Bank, payphones, [PARA]photobooth, video games and vending machines, juke box, 8 pool [PARA]tables, 4 snooker tables, launderette, study rooms, tv lounges, [PARA]function rooms, conference hall, customised night-club, [PARA]Endsleigh insurance and probably a small sub-continent in the [PARA]basement.[HDNG]CLUBS (NON SPORTING):[EHDNG][PARA]130 in all, including: Paint Balling; Welsh Literature; Medieval; [PARA]Amnesty International; Debates; Juggling; Youth Hostelling; etc[BOLD].[EBOLD][HDNG]OTHER ORGANISATIONS:[EHDNG][PARA]The Union publishes the multiple award-winning newspaper 'Gair [PARA]Rhydd' which is distributed to other colleges in Cardiff, including [ULNE][PARA]Glamorgan University[EULNE] in Pontypridd. Recently, a radio station [PARA]was set up broadcasting to the SU in the afternoons. The Cardiff[PARA]charity Rag (Caerdydd) raised ú23,000 last year;[ITAL] in the past, the [PARA]delicate balance of fun and fund-raising went somewhat awry, [PARA]but things are improving[EITAL]. To make up for this, Student [PARA]Community Action performed many a good deed locally. It has a[PARA]full-time organiser and a high level of involvement.[HDNG]RELIGIOUS:[EHDNG][PARA]Cardiff has 2 cathedrals (Anglican and Catholic) and churches of[PARA]most sorts, including Church of Scotland, Orthodox, Methodist, [PARA]Quaker, United Reform. There are also places of worship for [PARA]Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists.[HDNG]PAID WORK:[EHDNG][PARA]Cardiff, particularly during the tourist season, has lots of [PARA]opportunities for casual cash raising. Unfortunately, it also has [PARA]more than lots of students going for them.[PARA][PARA]
