  43. I. Vortek-VL Driver Installation:
  44.     1) Insert the installation disk #1 into drive A or B.
  45.     2) Change drive to A or B.
  46.     3) Type install and follow the instructions on screen.
  47.  
  48. II. Notes for users of Microsoft Windows 3.1
  49.  
  50.  
  51.     * Do not use the standard VGA drivers that come with Microsoft
  52.       Windows. These drivers do not support the XGA registers on your
  53.       VORTEK-VL.
  54.  
  55.     * 1152x900 resolution with 256 Colors requires 2 Megabytes of RAM on 
  56.       your video card.

  60.     For quick installation of the Vortek-VL drivers for MS-Windows, follow
  61.     these instructions:
  62.  
  63.  
  64.     1) Insert the installation disk #1 into drive A or B.
  65.     2) Change drive to A or B.
  66.     3) Type install and select WINDOWS 3.1
  67.     4) Type in the name of your WINDOWS directory (ie) C:\WINDOWS
  68.     5) Install copies the software drivers to your \windows\system
  69.        directory.
  70.     6) When install is finished, press ESC to exit install
  71.     7) Start WINDOWS
  72.     8) From the MAIN group, double-click on the WINDOWS SETUP icon.
  73.     9) Select OPTIONS | CHANGE SYSTEM SETTINGS.
  74.    10) Select a Vortek-VL Driver that is suitable for your monitor
  75.    11) You will see a message similar to the following:
  76.         'A driver for this display is already on the system. Do
  77.          you want to use the new currently installed driver or
  78.          install a new driver'
  79.    12) Select 'Current'
  80.    13) Restart Windows for your changes to take effect.

  83. III. Using QEMM386 with the Vortex-VL Board:
  84.     1) Add the following options in your config.sys in the line that loads
  85.        QEMM386:
  86.         X=B100-B1FF RAM
  87.     2) If there is still conflict, change the options as follows:
  88.         X=A000-C7FF RAM NO NS NT NX NV NR NRH NOSH
  89.     3) If you still encounter problems remove the 'RAM' option

  91. IV. Using EMM386 with Vortex-VL Board:
  92.     1) Add the following options in your config.sys in the line that loads
  93.        EMM386:
  94.         X=B100-B1FF
  95.     2) If you still encounter problems:
  96.         Follow the instructions in README.WRI, section 4.1 under your
  97.         Windows directory. To view this file, use the Windows Write
  98.         program that comes shipped with Windows and  load README.WRI

  105.     program and select a VORTEK-VL driver. This section is provided for
  106.     for the benefit of experienced Windows users.

  155. VI. Adjust utility:
  156.  
  157.      Some monitors require special CRT parameters.  For instance, the
  158.      ARTVIEW will not come up in 1024x768 and ViewSonic 7 comes up
  159.      with a scrunched picture in 1280x1024.  We have written a Window's
  160.      application called ADJUST.EXE to allow the user to customize the
  161.      display parameters for each particular display. ADJUST.EXE
  162.      is in the \windows subdirectory on this disk.
  163.  
  164.      If you run the INSTALL program on this disk and elect to install
  165.      the WINDOWS drivers, ADJUST.EXE is copied to your \windows\system
  166.      subdirectory.
  167.  
  168.      You can install ADJUST.EXE to your windows subdirectory manually
  169.      by typing in a command similar to the following:
  170.  
  171.        A:\expand A:\windows\adjust.ex_ c:\windows\adjust.exe
  172.  
  173.      Please make any substitutions to the above command according to your
  174.      exact floppy disk name and windows subdirectory.
  175.  
  176.      If you experience odd display behavior, try the "ADJUST" application
  177.      and change the monitor adjustment by using the arrow keys.
  178.      If the display loses synchronization entirely while you are in the
  179.      adjust application, simply type <ALT><F> and press D for Default Display
  180.      parameters.  You might also notify us of the EXACT model name/number 
  181.      of your display.  We are especially interested in developing a list of
  182.      these so that we can generate customized parameters for monitors whose
  183.      timings are not within the normal range.
  184.  
  185.      The Adjust application allows you to shift the active display
  186.      area to the left/right/top/bottom or stretch or shrink it in either
  187.      the vertical or horizontal direction.      The eight buttons should be
  188.      self-explanatory.  You may also load pre-packaged parameter files
  189.      which have the extension ".CRT" by selecting the file/open menu.
  190.      once you have adjusted your parameters via the buttons, you may
  191.      save them to a completely new file and by selecting "Boot With" from
  192.      the file menu, the Windows display drivers (excluding 64K  color)
  193.      will use them the next time Windows starts up.
  194.  
  195.      If your monitor will not display anything at all at the extended
  196.      resolutions, try using the Windows setup program to select 640x480,
  197.      run Windows, and use ADJUST to load and boot with the file that has
  198.      been configured to your monitor.  Then select "Boot With" and use the
  199.      windows setup to change to the higher resolution.

  202. VII. Software Drivers on this diskette:
  203.       Software drivers are provided for the following software packages to
  204.       enhance performance of the Vortek-VL video adapter.
  205.  
  206.           Windows 3.1
  207.           AutoCad (rel 12)
  208.           AutoCad (rel 11)
  209.           VESA BIOS
  210.           AutoShade 2.0
  211.           CADKEY or DATACAD
  212.           VersaCAD 386
  213.           WordPerfect 5.1

  217.     After you install any desired software driver, a file called READ.ME
  218.     will be installed in your application subdirectory. This file will
  219.     help you solve any problems you may encounter when installing for the
  220.     above software.

  223. VIII.  OS/2 Driver Support
  224.  
  225.      OS/2 2.1 drivers are only available on the Boca Research B.B.S. system at
  226.              (407) 241-1601
  227.  
  228.     The Boca Research B.B.S. supports modems up to 14.4K at 8,N,1.

  231. IX.  VDISPLAY  Utility
  232.  
  233.     VDISPLAY.EXE, the monitor setting utility, is installed only when the
  234.     VESA BIOS driver is installed.
  235.  
  236.     Install will copy VDISPLAY.EXE from this diskette to the directory
  237.     you specify when installing the VESA BIOS drivers.
  238.  
  239.     To install the VESA drivers, run the install program on this diskette
  240.     and select 'VESA BIOS'.
  241.  
  242.  
  243.     When using VDISPLAY, keep in mind the following:
  244.  
  245.     1. Vdisplay writes configuration options to a 'crt' file. By default,
  246.        this file is named 'AGX.CRT'. When you install the VESA BIOS
  247.        drivers, INSTALL optionally modifies your autoexec.bat file
  248.        to load the VESA BIOS. You will notice that the command that loads
  249.        the VESA BIOS refers to the default 'AGX.CRT' file. If you create
  250.        a 'crt' file using VDISPLAY, and call your 'crt' file by another
  251.        name, you must modify your autoexec.bat file accordingly.
  252.  
  253.     2. It is best not to over-write the 'crt' files supplied with this
  254.        diskette. These should be left 'as is' in the event that you
  255.        need to revert back to the default settings.
  256.  
  257.     3. If you make changes to the 'AGX.CRT' file, do not expect these
  258.        changes to be in effect when you run VDISPLAY. When you run
  259.        VDISPLAY, VDISPLAY loads the monitor configuration from the
  260.        default files, not the file that you spcified in your
  261.        autoexec.bat file.
  262.  
  263.     4. The default files shipped with your VORTEK-VL card are:
  264.

  277. X. AutoCad Release 11 & 12
  278.  
  279.     To use the VORTEK drivers with AutoCad versions 11 & 12 you must install
  280.     the 'VESA BIOS' drivers.
