  21.  Section 1.    If there will be only one CDROM drive on your system
  22.  
  23.       If  you want to use the factory settings (ie you have not changed  the
  24.  jumpers  on  the CM250 host adapter), you may run Quick Setup, by  pressing
  25.  F3.  This  will install the CDROM software on your startup disc and  modify
  26.  your startup files to load the software when your system is restarted.
  27.       If  you need to change the settings or the name of the directory where
  28.  Setup will install the software, run Full Setup, by pressing F4.

  32.  Section 2.    If there will be more than one CDROM drive
  33.  
  34.       Run  Full Setup, by pressing F4, to install the CDROM software  files,
  35.  but skip editing CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT, the startup files.
  36.       In  the  CONFIG.SYS file, Setup allows for only one  active  statement
  37.  loading  a  device driver for the CM250 host adapter, either  DD250.SYS  or
  38.  DD250XT.SYS. Setup allows you to change the options settings on that  line,
  39.  but  not  to  add another. To access more than one CM250 host adapter,  you
  40.  must set the jumpers on each adapter to a unique port and a unique IRQ, and
  41.  then  you must edit the CONFIG.SYS file to add a DEVICE= statement for each
  42.  adapter. Use the /P and /I switch options to assign each copy of the driver
  43.  to  a  specific adapter, and use the /D option to assign each a unique  tag
  44.  name. Setup does not detect any device driver other than DD250.
  45.       In the AUTOEXEC.BAT file, Setup allows for only one /D:tag_name switch
  46.  in  the  statement  which  loads the Microsoft  CDROM  Extensions  program,
  47.  MSCDEX.EXE.  Setup  allows  you to change the tag  name,  but  not  to  add
  48.  another. To access more than one CDROM drive thru MSCDEX, you must edit the
  49.  AUTOEXEC.BAT  file  to  add a /D switch for each  device  driver  you  have
  50.  loaded. Drive letters will be assigned by tag names from left to right.
  51.  
  52.       For example, to access two CM250 adapters and one generic adapter,  in
  53.  the CONFIG.SYS file :

  55.      DEVICE=C:\CDROM\DD250.SYS /P:340 /I:3 /D:MSCD001
  56.      DEVICE=C:\GENERIC\GENERIC.SYS /D:MSCD002
  57.      DEVICE=C:\CDROM\DD250.SYS /P:330 /I:6 /D:MSCD003

  59.      and in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file :

  61.      C:\CDROM\MSCDEX /L:G /D:MSCD003 /D:MSCD001 /D:MSCD002

  63.      The drive attached to the CM250 host adapter set for port 340 and IRQ 3
  64.  is  drive H, the drive on the other CM250 is drive G, and the generic drive
  65.  is drive I.

  69.  Section 3.    If you are connected to a network
  70.  
  71.       You may use Setup to install the CDROM software files and to edit your
  72.  startup  files.  But  before restarting your system,  you  must  edit  your
  73.  AUTOEXEC.BAT  file  to move the statement that loads  the  Microsoft  CDROM
  74.  Extensions  program,  MSCDEX.EXE, so that it is after any  statements  that
  75.  load network software and before any that load an operating environment (eg
  76.  DOSSHELL  or  Microsoft  Windows). The network software  will  not  install
  77.  properly if MSCDEX is installed first.
  78.       It  is recommended that your network administrator inspect the changes
  79.  Setup makes to your startup files.

  83.  Section 4.    If you want to load the CDROM software into upper memory
  84.  
  85.       The  device  driver  for the CM250 host adapter, DD250.SYS,  has  been
  86.  successfully tested with the DEVICEHIGH= feature of DOS 5.0, which  can  be
  87.  used  to  load device drivers into upper memory. Please refer to  your  DOS
  88.  manuals  for instructions on using DEVICEHIGH=. You will have to edit  your
  89.  CONFIG.SYS  file  to make this change. The DD250.SYS driver  has  not  been
  90.  tested with other, similar software.
  91.       The  Microsoft CDROM Extensions program, MSCDEX.EXE, cannot be  loaded
  92.  into  upper  memory. The /E switch asks MSCDEX to allocate expanded  memory
  93.  for its buffers only.

  97.  Section 5.    If you just want to update the CDROM software files
  98.  
  99.       Run Full Setup, by pressing F4. After the files have been copied,  you
  100.  can  skip  editing the startup files, CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT,  keeping
  101.  your current startup settings.
  102.

  105.  Section 6.    If you want to verify the CM250 host adapter settings
  106.  
  107.       The  CM250  host adapter and the CDROM drive must be installed  before
  108.  running this test.
  109.       Run  Verify Setup, by pressing F5. This will try to access  the  CDROM
  110.  drive  using the settings for port and IRQ from the DEVICE= statement  that
  111.  was  added  to  the CONFIG.SYS file. If you have not edited the  CONFIG.SYS
  112.  file during this run of Setup, Verify Setup will use the factory settings.
  113.      If Verify Setup fails:
  114.            1) check that the settings match the jumpers on the host adapter,
  115.            2) check that no other expansion boards use those settings, and
  116.            3) check that all cables are properly installed.

  120.  Section 7.    If you want to use host RAM for buffers (/M option)
  121.  
  122.       Both  MSCDEX and DD250 allow you to allocate space in host  RAM,  your
  123.  computer  system's main memory, for buffers. In both cases, the  number  of
  124.  buffers  is  given  by  an option switch, /M. MSCDEX  will  keep  directory
  125.  information  in  its  buffers.  DD250  uses  the  buffers  to  read  ahead.
  126.  Allocating more buffers will usually improve performance, but at  the  cost
  127.  of increasing the memory used by these programs.
  128.       It is recommended that you accept the defaults offered. These settings
  129.  will give good performance on most systems for most applications.
