  101. &a+672HShareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before
  102. &a+312Hbuying it.  If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you are
  103. &a+312Hexpected to register.  Individual programs differ on details -- some
  104. &a+312Hrequest registration while others require it, some specify a maximum
  105. &a+312Htrial period.  With registration, you get anything from the simple right
  106. &a+312Hto continue using the software to an updated program with printed manual.

  108. &a+672HCopyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, and
  109. &a+312Hthe copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions
  110. &a+312Has stated below.  Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just
  111. &a+312Hlike commercial authors, and the programs are of comparable quality.  (In
  112. &a+312Hboth cases, there are good programs and bad ones!) The main difference is
  113. &a+312Hin the method of distribution.  The author specifically grants the right

  212. &a+672HBOOKLET is designed to create PC Booklet sized documents from full
  213. &a+312Hpage text files on Laser Printers which emulate the Hewlett-Packard
  214. &a+312HLaserJet series.  Also supported are the DeskJet family by Hewlett-
  215. &a+312HPackard.  It prints four pages of the text file on one sheet of paper.
  216. &a+312HThe pages are printed "half size" on the right and left halves of both
  217. &a+312Hsides of a sheet of paper turned sideways (Landscape orientation.)  It
  218. &a+312Hsupports all the standard sizes of paper (A4, LETTER, LEGAL, and
  219. &a+312HEXECUTIVE)
  220.  
  221. &a+672HBOOKLET will perform transformation on basic LaserJet formatting
  222. &a+312Hcommands.  This means that you can use your word processor to print a
  223. &a+312Hformatted document to a file and use BOOKLET to print that file in
  224. &a+312Hbooklet form.  (You must get your word processor to create a file with
  225. &a+312HPCL commands.  Generally this is done by a "Print to disk" command.
  226. &a+312HBOOKLET &dDcannot&d@ print from your word processor's internal data file
  227. &a+312Hformat.)  For this to be successful, you must have fonts loaded in your
  228. &a+312Hprinter for the sizes BOOKLET will use.  These can be from a font
  229. &a+312Hcartridge or may be soft fonts which you have loaded ahead of running
  230. &a+312HBOOKLET.  BOOKLET does not create or load any fonts.  You will need fonts
  231. &a+312Hwhich are approximately two thirds the point size of the fonts you use in
  232. &a+312Hyour document.  If you do not have exactly the right font, the LaserJet
  233. &a+312Hwill select the closest match from the ones it has.  This match may or
  234. &a+312Hmay not prove acceptable.

  236. &a+672HFor plain ASCII text BOOKLET will select the 16.67 character per
  237. &a+312Hinch landscape lineprinter font.  This font does not exist on either the
  238. &a+312Horiginal LaserJet or the LaserJet+.  You will need to use a font
  239. &a+312Hcartridge having this font or load a soft font equivalent before running
  240. &a+312HBOOKLET.

  243. &a+312Hcommands.  It will discard page control commands such as page size, page
  244. &a+312Horientation, and margins.  If your document contains these, it may not

  272. &a+312Hrecord the options you have selected.  The values for your custom options

  304. &a+1032Hskips lines before starting printing.  The Hewlett-Packard
  305. &a+1032HDeskJet printers do this.  Compute the top auto skip by
  306. &a+1032Hmultiplying the distance it skips (in inches) by 6.

  309. &a+1032Hquarter inch top margin.  For them you would use a left auto

  420. &a+1032Hthe lower cassette.)  NOTE:  If you have selected LC ONLY from
  421. &a+1032Hthe IIP front panel MP will not be able to function.  For most
  422. &a+1032Happlications, selecting LC TRAY will provide the same paper
  423. &a+1032Hsource as LC ONLY but allows software switching of trays.  ALSO
  424. &a+1032HNOTE: if you are using the front output tray in conjunction
  425. &a+1032Hwith the MP tray, these printers function like the DeskJet
  426. &a+1032Hseries.  Use K:DJ.

  961. &a+312Hreduced document.  This will often be the case when you have used
  962. &a+312Hproportional fonts and proportional spacing in your document.  The result
  963. &a+312Hmay be words overlapping each other.

  966. &a+312HYou can experiment with different fonts to find the most pleasing result.

  969. &a+312Hcentering and tab spacing may not scale proportionally.  This is due to
  970. &a+312Hdifferences between the scaled font size and the actual font used by the
  971. &a+312Hprinter.  If you use spaces to do your formatting and stick to one font
  972. &a+312Hsize, the output will generally look correct.
