Transcription: The Indian national satellite 1B or INSAT was the second Indian satellite to be launched by the Space Shuttle. It provided television links, weather surveillance information and communications capabilities for India. Built in California by Ford Aerospace, the multipurpose INSAT 1B is controlled by the Satellite Control Center in Hassan, India. The 1B satellite replaced the earlier INSAT satellite which had been launched in in April 1982 but was shut down due to failure of a control system.
