Transcription: Designed to relay telephone and television communications, the Telstar III satellite was the second of its type to be deployed for AT&T. The satellite was designed at AT&T Bell Laboratories and built by Hughes Aircraft Corporation. Using silicon chips, which convert solar energy into electric power, Telstar was powerful enough to relay four times the number of phone calls carried by satellites of the previous generation. It was also capable of operating for 10 years instead of the standard 7.
