  6. The IPPort Custom Control enables a VB application to connect to 
  7. TCP/IP services on the Internet and your LAN. A Winsock 1.1 
  8. compliant TCP/IP subsystem is required. 
  9.  
  10. IPPort was designed for ease of use. Download it, and the Internet 
  11. will be only a few lines of code away from your VB application. The 
  12. package includes four examples: the first illustrates World Wide Web
  13. access, the second access of a Webster server on the Internet 
  14. (in case you need a dictionary!!), the third and the fourth are 
  15. examples of simple 'ping' and 'finger' clients. The attached help 
  16. file explains the functionality in detail.

  18. This is the second release of IPPort. It contains major improvements,
  19. has been widely tested, has a few more properties, and some minor 
  20. changes in the functional interface as shown in the help file.

  22. The package can be downloaded from Library 17 (Third Party Tools),
  23. MSBASIC forum, or ftp.cica.indiana.edu, sunsite.unc.edu, and their
  24. mirrors. It contains a fully functional SHAREWARE version. You can
  25. use it for evaluation purposes for a period of 30 days. Further
  26. use requires a license. Registration fee is US $25, no royalties.

  28. REGISTRATION INFORMATION

  30. The registration fee for IPPort is $25. You can register by email, 
  31. phone, or mail. Payments can be made by check, money order, or credit 
  32. card.

  34. By registering, you will be able to distribute royalty-free executables 
  35. that use IPPort. You will also receive prioritized online support, 
  36. code samples and tips from our mailing list, free minor updates (1.x), 
  37. discounts on major updates (2.x, 3.x, etc..),  and our thanks. And if 
  38. for any reason you find our registration fee unsuitable or unacceptable, 
  39. please write to us. Give us a good reason why, and we would be happy to 
  40. send you a free copy.

  84. time this file is created, we have not yet acquired an SWREG ID number. This 
  85. number will be supplied with future updates. For the moment, you can make a

  89. the product available now, rather then wait until CompuServe assigns an ID.

  91. LICENSING
  92.  
  93. i) shareware  version
  94.  
  95. You may use the shareware version of IPPort for up to 30 days in your 
  96. design environment for evaluation purposes only. You may copy and distribute 
  97. it freely as long as all the files in the package, including the demo 
  98. programs and this help file are distributed with it and no changes or 
  99. additions of any kind are made to the original package.

  101. There is no charge for any of the above, however, you are specifically 
  102. prohibited from charging, or requesting donations for any copies, however 
  103. made, and from distributing IPPort and/or it's accompanying files with 
  104. other products (commercial or otherwise) without prior written permission 
  105. from DevSoft.

  107. ii) registered version
  108.  
  109. As a registered user, you can use IPPort in your design environment as well 
  110. as distribute executables that use IPPort as a runtime component. DevSoft 
  111. asks for no royalties or runtime fees for such distribution. The only 
  112. requirement is that you distribute a license file (ipport.lic) which will 
  113. bear your unique serial number. You will obtain that file upon registration. 
  114. We also ask you as a courtesy to distribute this help file with your 
  115. application, but you are not required to do so.

  117. Please note that the rights to ipport.lic are not transferable: users of your 
  118. application cannot legally use ipport.lic in their own applications, or 
  119. distribute their own code using the ipport.lic with your serial number on 
  120. it. Only registered users can distribute executables using IPPort. You may 
  121. install only one registered copy of IPPort in a single workstation at any time. 
  122. Use of a registered copy in more than one workstation is against the terms 
  123. of this licensing agreement. In particular, you are specifically prohibited 
  124. from distributing a registered version of IPPort, except as a runtime component 
  125. of one of your applications.
