FRONTLETS
"Therefore shall ye lay up these My words in
your heart and in your soul, and bind them
for a sign upon your hand, that they may be
as frontlets between your eyes"
(Deuteronomy 11:18, KJV).
Description:
FRONTLETS is an inspirational memory resident
program (TSR) that can be popped-up any time over any DOS
based text program. When you need a moment of inspiration
from the Bible, press the [ALT]+[F] keys, and a colorful,
inspirational Bible verse pops-up over your spreadsheet,
word processor, or DOS prompt. FRONTLETS also functions as
a screen saver. After a user specified time interval of
keyboard inactivity, FRONTLETS will pop-up on your screen,
and then alternates a different Bible verse every ten
seconds until interrupted by keyboard activity.
What is a TSR?:
The acronym "TSR" is short for "terminate and stay
resident." In plain English, this means that once FRONTLETS
is loaded into your computer's memory, it will be available
whenever you need it.
How to make FRONTLETS load upon "boot-up":
Simply add a line to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file,
specifying the location of FRONTLET.EXE, followed by a
space, followed by a number representing the interval in
minutes before the screen saver activates.
Example: C:\FRONTELT\FRONTLET TSR 15
The above line in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file will
instruct FRONTLETS to activate as a screen saver after 15
minutes of keyboard inactivity.
You do not have to load FRONTLETS from an
AUTOEXEC.BAT file if you choose not to. FRONTLETS can be
loaded into memory from any DOS prompt. If you fail to
enter the interval in minutes, the program will prompt you
to enter a time interval. If you do not want the screen
saver to activate, then enter a value of zero (0).
Please note the letters "TSR" on the command line
example above! These letters are necessary if you wish to
load FRONTLETS as a pop-up ram resident program. If you
omit these letters, then FRONTLETS will NOT activate with
the keys [ALT] + [F] or time out feature, but the program
will nevertheless still run. If you encounter memory
conflicts using the "TSR" parameter (computer locks up)
then omitting these letters will be the only way to use
FRONTLETS.
In summary, then, type this at the DOS prompt...
When you want to load as When memory conflicts
a TSR, popping up over occur or you want to
another program with ALT conserve RAM:
+ F, or after keyboard
inactivity: C:\FRONTLET
C:\FRONTLET TSR
Special requirements:
To run FRONTLETS successfully on your computer, your
system must be equipped with a hard disk drive, and a VGA
monitor.
Technical talk:
Once FRONTLETS is loaded into memory as a TSR, it
will occupy only 5K of RAM. If loaded with the "TSR"
parameter, and once activated, either by [ALT]+[F] or
after the specified time interval has elapsed, FRONTLETS
will swap out the current program (if any) to EMS, and if
no EMS is available, it will swap out the current program
to your hard disk. Once FRONTLETS is popped-down, it will
reload you program exactly the way you left it.
If you loaded FRONTLETS as a TSR and wish to unload
FRONTLETS from memory, and you are at a DOS prompt, pop-up
FRONTLETS by [ALT]+[F], then once presented with a Bible
verse, press the exclamation mark key (!). This will unload
FRONTLETS, freeing up the memory it had previously
occupied, and return you to the DOS prompt.
Warnings:
Do not load FRONTLETS as a TSR if you plan on
running DESQView or MicroSoft Windows later. Your
computer may lock up if FRONTLETS is loaded into memory
PRIOR TO loading DESQView or Windows. You can, however,
run FRONTLETS from WITHIN either of these two programs if
you open a new window to run it from.
Disclaimer:
The author makes no warranties, expressed or
implied, as to the quality of performance of this program.
The author will not be held liable for any direct,
indirect, incidental or consequential damages resulting
from the use of FRONTLETS. Your use of the program
constitutes your agreement to this disclaimer and your
release of the author from any form of liability or
litigation.
If FRONTLETS does not work as a TSR, then try
unloading other unnecessary TSRs that may cause a conflict
in memory, and rerun the program. If this does not solve
your problem, I am sorry, there is nothing I can do for
you. Please do not write me asking for a fix in such
cases. Your computer simply has a conflicting program
in memory that FRONTLETS evidently does not like.
Shareware and distribution:
FRONLETS is distributed as shareware. Shareware is
a "try before you buy" software marketing concept that
allows the user to obtain fully functional copies of
programs for evaluation. The distribution and copying
fee that you may have paid to obtain this disk does
not cover the cost of the software contained on this
disk. Shareware programs such as the one that you are
about to try require separate payment to the author if it
is found to be a useful product and if it is used beyond a
reasonable evaluation period. Registration is $9.00 USA.
Print the FRONTLET.REG file on this disk for a handy
registration form, or respond to the appropriate prompt
from within the program.
