RAnews (tm) V1.1
Copyright (C) 1992-93, By Software Plus
All Rights Reserved
DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
differ on details -- some request registration while others
require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
using the software to an updated program with printed manual.
Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
specific group. For example, some authors require written
permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
Shareware.
Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.
And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware
has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
product, you don't pay for it.
DISCLAIMER - AGREEMENT
Users of RAnews must accept this disclaimer of warranty:
RAnews is supplied as is. The author disclaims all warranties,
expressed or implied, including, without limitation, the
warranties of merchantability and of fitness for any purpose.
The author assumes no liability for damages, direct or conse-
quential, which may result from the use of RAnews."
RAnews is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to
the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your
friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part of
another system. The essence of "user-supported" software is to
provide personal computer users with quality software without
high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to
continue to develop new products. If you find this program
useful and find that you are using RAnews and continue to use
RAnews after a reasonable trial period, you must make a reg-
istration payment of $10.00 to Software Plus The $10.00
registration fee will license one copy for use on any one
computer at any one time. You must treat this software just like
a book. An example is that this software may be used by any
number of people and may be freely moved from one computer
location to another, so long as there is no possibility of it
being used at one location while it's being used at another.
Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the
same time.
Commercial users of RAnews must register and pay for their copies
of RAnews within 30 days of first use or their license is
withdrawn. Site-License arrangements may be made by con-tacting
Software Plus.
Anyone distributing RAnews for any kind of remuneration must
first contact Software Plus at the address below for
authorization. This authorization will be automatically granted
to distributors recognized by the (ASP) as adhering to its
guidelines for shareware distributors, and such distributors may
begin offering RAnews immediately (However Software Plus must
still be advised so that the distributor can be kept up-to-date
with the latest version of RAnews.).
You are encouraged to pass a copy of RAnews along to your friends
for evaluation. Please encourage them to register their copy if
they find that they can use it. All registered users will
receive a copy of the latest version of the RAnews system.

Overview:
RAnews is a News bulletin generator for the Remote Access BBS
It allows the SysOp to use his or her favorite editor like Qedit,
or DOS 5 EDIT program Etc. RAnews will make both color ANSI and
ASCII Text files for the NEWS. or ANEWS. files. On screen color
selection, Easy setup, faster than anything that I have found so
far.
Questions:
call (503) 626-3511 Voice
(503) 639-5839 BBS
Upon payment we will ship you a registered copy of RAnews
with out the long Shareware delays.
Instructions:
RAnews is very simple to use, place RAnews in your BBS directory
and type RAnews.
You will see a short Shareware screen, then you will come to the
main menu, scroll down to the setup menu, here you will be asked
for the editor you want to use. If your using DOS 5 editor then
just type EDIT.COM ( .COM is optional ) or any other editor that
allows the document file that your using to be given on the
command line. ( Qedit works great also )
Next you will be asked where your text files are stored,
example: d:\ra\txtfiles\
after you have finished setting up the program you will be
returned to the main menu.
**** NOTE ****
You only have to run the setup program if you make changes to
your editor preference, or Text Files directory on your BBS.
As for the rest of the program, just select NEWS.ANS/ASC or
ANEWS.ANS/ASC depending on what file you want to edit or create.
you will then be taken to your editor, If this is your first time
using RAnews it will crate a file NEWS.TMP or ANEWS.TMP that will
later be automatically converted to the ANSI and ASCII bulletin
files. don't delete these .TMP files or you won't be able to add
new news to old bulletins, if you want fresh bulletins then
deleting the .TMP files would be ok.
Now when in the editor just type in what you want in your
bulletin, do not go past margin 65 or some of your text may be
lost in the conversion. after your finished save your file and
exit the editor, you will now be shown a color menu, and be
prompt for the primary color selection, enter the color you want
for the first selection, then you will be asked for the secondary
color if you select a different color you will get a bar paper
effect on the ANSI news file, or just single color paper if you
select the same color ( or press enter for the same color ).
after you have selected the colors, you will see the conversion
take place on screen, and the file will be copied to your text
file directory in both ANSI & ASCII formats.
