DISCLAIMER
Although both I and others have tested this program, it is
entirely possible that JCQWK may malfunction in environments
or under circumstances in which it has not been tested. The
author disclaims any and all responsibility for damages (both
consequential and incidental) resulting from the use or misuse
of JCQWK. Sole responsibility for determining the suitability
of the program rests with the user.
-----------------
Features:
o Downloading/uploading of QWK compatible mail packets
o Optional numbering of downloaded package up to 99 - e.g.
BBS.Q01
o Modify pointers - asks how many messages the user wants
to receive
per area in stead of asking for a lastread pointer
o Optional sending of index files (*.NDX)
o Optional sending of a list with new files (no online
scan!)
o Selecting/deselecting complete message groups
o Change flags per area
o Optional filters for ALL, own messages, only to user
o Sysop controlled optional network status per area
o Selecting a number of messages in stead of entering a
lastread pointer
while selecting a seperate area
o Running on RA 2.00, RA 1.1? and even with only a door.sys
file
o Supports Hudson style messagebase and JAM (in future!)
o Multi language support - uses own language files
o Hotkeys changeable by sysop (per language file)
o Single or double list displays
o Flexible usereditor
o Areas can be added/dropped by writing a letter to JC QWK
(check your offline mailreader about this!)
o Simple installation - Just install as a type 7 with no
parameters
other than *M (needed to run some archive programs!)
-----------------

-----------------
WHAT'S NEW
Since this is the initial GAMMA release you probably don't
find any new stuff.
-----------------
INSTALLATION for RA 2.00 and RA 1.11
Decide from what directory you will be running the door. Fill
this directory
with JCQWK.EXE, JCQSETUP.EXE, your language files (see below!)
e.g.
ENGLISH.JCQ and DUTCH.JCQ, JCQPROT.CFG and JCQPACK.CFG.
It should look something like this:
Directory of Z:\BBS\JCQWK
DUTCH JCQ 10348 05-23-93 10:32a
ENGLISH JCQ 10348 05-23-93 10:32a
JCQPACK CFG 1840 05-17-93 11:57p
JCQPROT CFG 1030 05-17-93 11:56p
JCQSETUP EXE 155568 05-23-93 10:22a
JCQUSERS DAT 16281 05-23-93 10:32a
JCQWK EXE 75074 05-23-93 10:30a
9 file(s) 404969 bytes
You can put these files anywhere, as long as they are
together! (see package
list if you can't find them)
You can create/edit both *.JCQ and JCQUSERS.DAT with
JCQSETUP.EXE - see
section about the setup program below.
----------------
*** IMPORTANT NOTE ***
Both JCQWK as JCQSETUP will use the directory they are in to
look for the
config files. so if you run the door as a type 7 door in RA
and you
specify \BBS\JCQWK\JCQWK.EXE *M, it will look in that directoy
for all
config files! if the setup program resides in a different
directory the wrong
config files will be updated!
Keep this in mind when running the setup program and check on
the main screen
what directory it uses. (You can guess what will happen if
there are several
copies hanging around...)
----------------
Language Files
JCQWK uses language files of it self, each language has its
own name,
????????.JCQ. The first part of the filename is taken from the
language
file active in Remote Access when firing up the door.
So for each .RAL file you defined in Remote Access you have to
have a
.JCQ file. Included in this package you will find ENGLISH.JCQ
and DUTCH.JCQ.
If you defined other names in Remote Access, just rename or
copy the JCQ
files. You can also create your own language file from within
JCQSETUP.
See RUNNING JCQSETUP section below for more information.
-------------
Menu files
JCQWK will look for the menufiles (.ANS. AVT or .ASC) in the
directory
pointed to by the active language record from Remote Access.
It will expect the files as contained in ENGLISH.ZIP and
DUTCH.ZIP.
These files are normal files, as used with Remote Access. You
can even
use all special codes!
If not found the JCQWK directory will be searched for these
files.
-------------
Remote Access Menu
Installation in RA is very simple. Just make an entry for the
QWK door
and define it as a type 7 exit. Supply as optional parameter
the full
path and name of JCQWK.EXE ending with *M.
Swapping is not needed for JCQWK, but for some archive
programs who wants
lots of memory (ARJ for exemple!).
It will look something like this:
--------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are some switches available, though not common used.
SHARE will force share on all files and must be used if you
think share
is not working.
DEBUG will supply you with more logging, so you can see were
things go wrong
Just add these parameters without leading \ - or whatever!
-------------------
Logging
Logging will take place in the logfile RA is writing to.
If anything goes wrong, check this logfile first before asking
for advice!
Try using DEBUG to get more info if things go wrong.
------------------
Running JCQSETUP
From within JCQSETUP you can can edit all files needed:
languagefiles,
userfiles, config file.
I strongly advise to go trough all items to ensure it meets
the correct
settings!
Firing up jcqsetup brings the following screen:

Things to remember when you use this programs. are:
o check the line stating the directory of the config files
o the last line gives you information on the highlited item
(trough the whole program) in this case a menu to select
name, location and reg code.
-----------------
SYSTEM DETAILS

o BBS Setup
will display the BBS setup menu (see below)
o Use packet numbering
This item will toggle between use or not use the packet
numbering feature. This feature will number the outgoing
packages. The number is kept in the userfile for each
user seperately and will be incraesed when a download was
successful. It will affect the extention of the packet
only. If disabled the archived packet will end with .QWK,
if enabled with .Q?? where ?? stands for a number between
00 and 99
o Download protocols will display the protocol edititor
(see below)
o Compress tools will display the compression tools editor
(see below)
o Limits will display the Limits setup menu (see below)
o Language definition will bring you a menu with .JCQ
language files (if any) to choose from. You can press DEL
or INS to delete or create one. Selecting an area brings
you to the language editor (see below)
o Columns will toggle between double and single display.
This is used when displaying areas or groups. If double
is selected, areas will be truncated at position 25

Fill in the name of your bbs, and the code to use for the
up/download packets (no extension!). Toggle the bbs type so it
reflects your setup (RA 2.00, RA 1.1? or other) The name of
the news file bulletin. It will look in the directory pointed
to by the languagerecord it gets from exitinfo.bbs (used in
RA). If the user uses ansi or avatar it will look for a .ANS
first, if not there, it looks for a .ASC. If no file is found
the JCQWK directory will be searched.
When you have not registrated JCQWK it will ignore this entry
and generate a NEWS.ASC itself with a nice message to the
user.
The newsfile list has to be an ASCII file, generated with one
of the available file utilities. This is done for performance
reasons. An online scan is a strange thing to do when using an
offline mailreader...
The welcome and bye file will be added on the same conditions
as the news file.
----------------
Download protocols will present a selection screen to you from
where you can add, delete or select a protocol.
When you select a protocol, next screen will appear:

╘═══════════════════════════════════════╛
Actual lastread pointer is the pointer found in LASTREAD.BBS
for this user.
BE CAREFULL NOT TO MESS UP THIS POINTER AS YOUR USERS WILL NOT
LIKE IT!
Last succeeded run pointer is the pointer of the message of
the last
downloaded packet.
Receive own messages only: the user will only receive messages
addressed to
him directly.
Receive only to all: Only messages to ALL will be selected.Receive self written messages: the user gets the messages
uploaded by him
with the next package.
Network status: This will enable the user to upload mail with
other names
in the from field. Normally spoken jcqwk checks the entry in
MESSAGES.RA
to see what's allowed. If REAL NAMES ONLY is active then the
from field will
be filled with the exitinfo.usersinfo.name (users real name).
If Handles only
is active same thing will be donw except the handle is taken
from the
exitinfo.bbs.
When PICK AN ALIAS is active, the user can use all names
(aliases) he wants,
which is the same as netstatus will do.
-------------
EXIT
Well, this is a familar one I think.
Choose between with or without save.
----------------------------
Offline adding/dropping areas
This version supports ADD and DROP command given by offline
mailreaders.
-----------------
LIMITATIONS
As this Gamma isn't ready yet (otherwise it would't be a
gamma!) there
are some things to be done before the next release.
There is a known bug when jumping to dos. On return only the
first 25
columns are restored... Hope to get this fixed by next
release.
When selecting multiple area you will get for each area the
setup questions.
This will be fixed asking them once and applying them on all
selected areas.
This releas will work with RA1.11 but some functions in the
setup program
only work with RA 2.00. I'm not sure if I'm going to fix this
one. I only
will do so if there are enough users requesting this.
-----------------
SUPPORT
Since I am using this stuff myself I will be supporting this
program with
all means I have to get it as perfect as possible.
-----------------
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
