The history of FEBBS
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Important!
Febbs has a new keysystem. To evaluate this version You must
enter the following evaluation key E39D842B8BB3.
- Represents a bug fix
+ Represents a new feature
1.92 1992-Mars-9
+ New registration site in the United Kingdom. Simon Gledhil
will be more then glad to help You out with Your registrations.
- If You tried to rename a file and it allready existed Febbs
would terminate with a runtime error.
Reported by Malte Eriksson.
- Corrected Errors in Feppla.
+ Added a function to tag files that are older then a certain
date. Usefull when You need to clean up a bit in large areas
with lots of files.
Suggested by Lars Hellgren.
+ Feppla will no longer automaticaly uppercase names and
command lines of the external utilities since some utilities
are case sensitive.
Reported by Mats Wallin.
+ Built in editor in Feppla of the text files that Febbs
depends on. Use either from a separate menu or use the hotkey
(F4) when defining the names of the different text files in the
lists setup part. Filesize max 64Kb of the files to edit.
Suggested by Daniel Docekal.
+ The toggle flags part in the setup has been changed to act more
like the rest of the setup. That is the SAA key <F2> is used to
save that particular part.
Suggested by Several.
- When saving Files.Bbs Febbs would leave a Files.$$$ file in the
direcory if Files.Bbs was locked. This as been corrected. Febbs
will now inform You if the Files.Bbs is locked when trying to
save it.
+ Added a function to let You strip DownLoad counters inside the
editor.
Suggested by Lars Hellgren.
+ Rewrote one of the often used routines in the list creation
part of Febbs and gained a whopping 2% speed increase :-)
+ Did some more rewriting. This time 2 routines ported to pure
assembler and another 6% speed increase when creating the
lists was the result. (estimated time spent assembler coding
was 4hours. So one can allways ask oneself if it is worth it :-)
+ Febbs will now treat all lines starting with characters less
then #33 as comment lines so You can now have Avatar colour
codes as the first thing on a line.
+ The date style setup has changed to be more like DOS internal
numbering of the Date styles. Please adjust to Your prefered
style.
+ New key system. Due to the fact that someone broke the old
Febbs key system there is in this version a new one. This means
that if You are a registered user (see REGUSERS.FEB for a list
of registered users) then You have to contact either the USA
registration site or the main registration site to get an
update of Your key.
+ Added an evaluation key system. To be able to evaluate
Febbs You must enter an evaluation key in the setup. This
key is time limited to 6 months from the release of the this
specific version. Every new Febbs version will have a new key.
E39D842B8BB3 is this versions key.
- A small glitch caused Febbs to only be able to handle 255
records in Maximus Area.Dat file.
- When hurling Zero length files Febbs would end with a division
by Zero error.
- When hurling between to areas on the same physical disk and You
choose to overwrite a file Febbs would sometimes still transfer
the description to the new area allthough it shouldn't.
+ The number of empty lines at the end of Files.Bbs is now configurable.
+ Removed support for the FBTMP environment variable. This option is
now located in the setup under General Items.
+ Changed style of the setup program when You choose wich areas to
include in the different lists.
+ The areas to include in the list of frequable directories is
now configurable.
+ The video option in the setup has been enhanced to feature
Auto mode as well not only 25 rows or 43/50 rows.
Suggested by Malte Erikson.
+ You can now configure up to 10 files that Febbs should
ignore when adopting files and so on.
Suggested by Anders Brink and Daniel Docekal.
+ In some environments the fast move (rename) across drives
does not work to well. Therefore it is now possible to
setup wether or not to use the fast move between drives.
Normaly this can be set to OFF if You do not have any assigned
or substituted drives cause this is the only time the fast move
works between drives.
Reported by Burkhardt Mueller.
+ You can now design the header that comes before each area in
the filelist. This is done in a text file that You can call
anything You want. Just make sure to in the setup, under list
setup -> Headers/footers to set "Area header ctl file" to point
at this text file. Included as an example is HEAD.FEB that also
explains the metastrings availiable.
Suggested by several.
+ Full support for Maximus 2.00 long areanumbers.
Suggested by Anders Brink.
+ Added toggle in the setup if You, as Maximus 2 sysop, want to
use the long areanumbers or if You want to stay with the old 3
character style. This switch has no effect in any other mode
then Maximus 2 mode.
